Kaysa Pritchard

Hey guys, Long time reader of blogs. First time poster.

With all the rage about Nathan Peats heading up to the Gold Coast and the rage it got from most Parramatta fans led me to joining 1eyed eel and expressing my thoughts about to situation.

I personally see this as a blessing. No shots at Nathan as he was a champion player and a good bloke, But here now with Kaysa we will be looking at our long term number 9.

This kid plays his absolute heart out and with each game is getting better and better. He offers explosiveness off the bench when he plays and runs just as hard at the line as his brother Frank Pritchard even though his half the size. I think by the end of the season he will be our  9 and for many more seasons to come once he bulks up and gets more experience under his belt. I feel as he is the most underrated player on our team at the moment.

Now here's a idea for you and BA if your reading. Haha

Cody Nelson starts at 9 for the first 10-20mins Kaysa comes on for the rest of the game at hooker with Cody pushing out to the second row and being our so called "Utility"

Similar to the Cowboys game plan of Rory Kostjasyn and Jake Granvel. With Granvel coming on around the 20min mark and having Kostjasyn (the bigger body) start the game and taking the bigger hits at the start of the game making it easier for Granvel to come on around more exhausted bodys and rip up for the rest of the game.

Sorry about the rambling guys. Keen to hear your thoughts.

  • Good first blog mate.
I can understand your reasoning behind Pritchard coming on after 20 mins or so and it may work?
I'm not sure Kaysa's body is up to the rigours of playing NRL, week in week out. He seems to get injured a lot and we have a hooker coming.
    • CRF any chance you could go back to your earlier blogs today regarding your stories and Jarryd, theres lots of questions there for you, and its nice to see you back again, cheers

  • Hi jazz welcome, ive gone off KP as a long term option but its getting too late to go into tactics, im getting a bit tired so i'll give a reply tomoz, nice first blog and good to see you joined after so long.

  • I think you make some good points Jazz.

Like many others, I'm not sure KP is physically up to first grade at present, although I do like his explosiveness. He reminds me a lot of Dennis Moran - who also was good on his day, but ultimately, not a consistent first grade rugby league player.

Your points re Cody Nelson I completely concur with. In my view, I'd be content to see IDG take the hooking role for the rest of the season and Nelson off the bench as the utility. Nelson can play hooker, backrow and, at a pinch, you could probably throw him in the halves or out in the centres. To my mind, he is an ideal utility who, whilst lacking first grade experience and is very green, does provide us with options in the event of injury or concussion absence during a game.

I get what BA is trying to do - KP is clearly a skilled footy player and potentially is our long term number 9, and this season offers us the perfect opportunity to give him valuable game time considering that we almost certainly won't play finals. But, in order to win games, IDG is currently the best hooker in the club and must start every game when available.

It's a balancing act for BA. Do you blood the young up-and-comer or do you throw a jack-of-all-trades-yet-master-of-none to play a utility role?

  • Pritchard's service out of dummyhalf is not up to the extremely high standards of a fulltime starting nrl hooker yet. But he definitely brings other attributes such as enthusiasm and toughness.
  • Poor little Kaysa, if only he was playing in the peptide era. He could be as big as his brother.

  • Next season we might see our U20's Captain, Denzal Tonize, move up to Intrust. Very promising No.9 and a solid 97kg player who has filled in as a back-rower in a similar role to the one Peatsy played for us. Like your theory too.
  • Cody Nelson is a backorder/lock who played one game against a very ordinary St George side and for some reason people believe he is some sort of hooking option??  Dummy half is the most important position in the team these days and we should be looking at a decent replacement for Peats.  Not sure if Kaysa will ever be more then a 20 min back up hooker.

    • I agree with Alan, Cody is the best choice for hooker.
