Former rugby player Jarryd Hayne, who signed with the 49ers last month despite having never played American football, has been working out with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. And Kaepernick likes what he sees.

Phenomenal athlete. Just a natural,” Kaepernick told the Sacramento Bee. “Since the day I met him, since every workout he’s been at, he’s going to give you everything he has. And it doesn’t seem like there’s going to be much of a learning curve for him.”

Hayne is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound native of Australia who has never played American football, but he’s been on the NFL’s radar for years as an athlete who could make the transition. Kaepernick said it’s easy to see him finding a spot in the NFL.

“This is going to be a football player,” he said. “He does a lot of things very well and it’s going to be our job to be able to utilize him and put him in position to allow him to make plays and use that athleticism.”

Hayne got a $100,000 guarantee from the 49ers, which is an awful lot to give a guy who has never played football. If Kaepernick is right, that’s going to be money well spent.

  • Really? Is this the time and place for this type of shit
    • Perfect time and place imo.
  • I'd had enough disappointment for 1 day at Parra - so I went to my usual NFL sites for some cheering up

This was the FIRST article posted at profootballtalk...UNBELIEVABLE !!!!

Just a BAD day for this eels fan - all round lol

The timing was just too uncanny - so naturally I thought I's share the love with other HAPPY parra fans also lol

    • Yes, can't get much worse for us Parra fans. But Parra were hopeless with Hayne anyway.
  • I'm happy for hayne the guy is a legend. Im also happy for us as we are better off without him as can be seen how well we are doing this year.
  • Was a big Jarryd fan.  But he chose to leave us.  Wish him the best but do not care what happens to him in the NFL.

I follow the Chaicago Bears in the NFL & the Eels & he plays for neither.

    • I feel your pain - I'm a Redskins fan,,,,,and a Parra fan - he plays for neither, but I am curious and hopeful that he can beat impossible odds and can make a roster though

  • Kap should worry about his own game. Since the 9ers super bowl against the Ravens, Kap has been ordinary. A quarterback in 2 minds.
    • I think you are a 49ers gan from memory - YES he has declined

But it is much better than being a Redskins fan - that I guarantee you

  • Still a Big Jarryd Fan.. A guy who cut his teeth and developed with out Eels is getting wraps in a Mega Sport.. Can't wait to see where it takes him and still hope he comes back one day..
