Junior Paulo and the retirement of Watmough.

The article about Paulo has me thinking. Clearly we would have liked to keep him, but salary cap constraints have meant we are probably nowhere near the offer made by Stickys Raiders. What I want to know is, does the June 30th rule apply with Paulo's Raider contract? And if so do we we offer say 50K less than the raiders if Watmoughs retirement is insurance approved? I mean surely with the 750k we have more than enough to cover Paulo? I can't imagine the Raider should pay that much. Anyway what are everybody's thoughts, is this a plan behind the scenes or has the club already decided to move on, it could be interesting and I for one would love Paulo to backflip on the raiders like Papalli did to us.

  • By the way, it is nearly impossible to write a blog on an iPhone with this site. I know there are some errors, but it is a big pain in the arse to fix them when what you are typing doesn't show on screen....
  • Perfect blog, to put in the Paulo article thread. That why members post those articles, to start conversations on the topic not to start new blogs every time some has a opinion on the same topic.
Sorry mate i just hate scrolling through so many blogs each day, hardly your fault. At least you made a decent effort and no the june 30 deadline has been scrapped for a 10 day cooling off period.
    • Yeah all good, I considered putting it in the article thread, but thought it was worth a standalone. Now knowing the new cooling off period, not so much...
  • Well considering you are the third one to say it on this thread......
  • I didn't even realise, I thought I was pretty knowledgable too. Well you learn something new everyday and the cooling off period is much better for sure. A shame for us in Paulos case though.
  • I bow down to your superior contract knowledge. I was unaware, simple as that.
  • stuff him dont want playes who dont want to be here

n signing norms is the number one priority

  • Good point, surely we will be in a great cap position next year even with an upgrade for Norman, assuming the watmough situation plays out in our favour.

I suppose a upgrade for Semi on the cars too.
  • yea id say so

dnt need to sign anyone new though we have a great team atm

just a solid replacement for paulo

  • I think we had a limit we were willing to spend on a 40min a game prop.

750000 a year exceeded the limit no matter who it was.

Think that is what it came down to rather then not having the money available

"Exactly, why let him sit on the sideline or in Union, we get nothing out of it. At least get something in return. Not just anything but something pretty good."

"I would be really happy with Howarth, i think that is on the line of a deal where it is both fair value and nearly realistic of getting done. Still a long shot but i could see Howarth. Coates is a fantasy for example.
