Jumping the gun

I know we are always at the centre of attention whether we are in season or not, quite simply our great club sell newspapers more than any other sporting franchise known to man.Our great club has had many split factions, personal agendas and generally poorly managed administrations over the decades. We the members / fans have suffered terribly in both on and off field performances giving rise to resentment, calling it a day of our beloved eels and simply becoming embittered and cynical. We know that the media love nothing more than bashing Parra from pillar to post, hell some media morons have based the entire career on sledging our club for personal gain and we know who they are and it's not just a few.In the last decade it has become almost - actually scratch that, it was farcical to be known as a parra supporter with the amount of in-house fighting tearing our great club apart from the inside out. We endured the Emperor (Fitzy) telling all and sundry that we would be bankrupt in the next 5 or so years, hence the highly popular Spags era ....... ( Cough cough) was ushered in with many expectations of professional management and on field success - unfortunately the personal agendas, nepotism and self driven interests were simply a means to create further wealth rather than recreate the once mighty powerhouse Parra once was.Which brings me to our latest fiasco, Steve Sharp and his diabolical administration. Steve rode the election campaign on transparency and bringing the glory days back to the Eels, something that Steve himself was aparty to during our dominant reign of the 80s. We the members and fans were desperate for success as we have endured and suffered for too long the agony and despair of not making regular Finals footy, not to mention the embarrassing cellar dweller tag in the last few years ( albeit BA reign)But here we are, a club on the rise with a roster that is the envy of the league, a roster that Hayne himself stated that was the best in over a decade, a roster that has the potential to lift the premiership trophy, a roster appointed by BA, who was he himself appointed by a very stubborn Steve Sharp who insisted this was our man. This Administration has indeed bumbled along, appointing self regulators to seek transparency by previous administrators and clarify mismanagement issues, even to the point of receiving NRL breach notices over our salary cap scandals. But the recent refurb of our Training facilities and centre of excellence is first rate. The NRL has stipulated 117 governance amendments / additions (pricewaterhouse Coopers) be realised within the Parra framework, our board are implementing most and reviewing under the supervisor of the NRL the more complicated adjustments, and yet we continue to bumble along - TPA scandal and now the latest board pay rise without authorisation ( see liquor and gaming) has evoked more trees to be demolished and media hacks and their personal alliances and agendas sit rubbing their hands in glee, yet one of our directors Paul Gerrard welcomes the close audit scrutiny as this would not only appease the NRL but clarify the lengths the board has gone to to instill good company governances and overall management - But we have a new stadium coming in the next few years ........Many media beat ups are calling for Sharp to stand down, I'm under the impression that most on this site tend to agree, however until the NRL finish their latest investigations, how are we to know what truly is fictional as opposed to reality, we as the die hard patriotic Parra supporter seem to sway from US vs Them to the self loathing, infighting, diabolically imbecilic neutered fair weather fan that not only regurgitates the media bullshit but starts to call for heads to roll without the facts being clearly identified and accepted as gospel.Seriously we all hate the journos with agendas and there are many, whether it be the DT or the studios, they all seem to have an axe to grind. But for the sake of our great club, lets baton down the hatches and create that seige mentality of US Vs Them -until it is clear in black and while that breaches have been proven and sanctions are imposed. Otherwise we really are no better than the journos and other factions and even a few members who delight in dragging our beloved club through the mud.I'm of the strongest belief that no one is bigger than the club, but I'm also a firm believer that mud sticks and agendas are driven for personal interest not the clubs best interest.Just thought I'd jot my thoughts down while I had some down time at work, I've been a member for quite sometime and thoroughly enjoy the contributions and banter - great job guys !!Eel4Ever

  • Yep. The doom sayers on here should just hold an election for the chairmen of their ghey posse.
Nothing has been proven yet apart from Nck Sukmeoff and the Telegraph are poor excuses for 'media'.
  • Grunta we seem to have joined the saga and are hell bent on self destructing.
We've lost that loyal aspect and joined the masses.

Until things are black n white - leave well enough alone
  • And if we win tonight to think this lessens the burden a tad somewhat given the momentum of winning - all those dribbling journos change track and ride the Eels express - just laughable
  • Really well written blog mate and i agree with all youve said, only problem is that the leaks and media arnt going to stop, its a shit situation we are in.

  • I think in moving forward we as the Eels fan site should only be discussing the footy, and let The NRL and the board sort it out....we should be standing side by side with the players and simply leave the politics alone and ignore the media.

Media love nothing more than the attention, we simply should not be giving them the time of day.
  • Darkie your 100 % right mate
  • Snake I know full well how impartial you have been over the years mate, you call a spade a spade, but on this occasion we need solidarity and process before we neck our board
  • Side by side in the trenches with the team - so true SimoEel, It's US Vs THEM
  • Great blog. I agree that we should deprive the media of the air they are using. Let's stick to the footie till all had been worked out. I reckon some media people have big money on Eels in some way and are trying to drive our price past $20 - at present $17. Worth a thought??
  • Great comment Bear - more to that than people realise.
Journos are pure oxygen thrives and should be hung drawn and quartered for the shear forestry they use up lol
