Joshua Curran named in NSW Indigenous Under 16's team

Parramatta Eels local junior and Eels Harrold Matthews Cup squad member Josh Curran has been named in the NSW Indigenous Under-16s squad for 2015.

Curran is among a host of talented youngsters who will play Queensland Murri Under-16s in one of the curtain raisers to the NRL and Indigenous All Stars clash on the Gold Coast on February 13.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for these talented players who performed exceptionally at the recent training camp at Narrabeen,” said NSWRL Indigenous Programs Officer Steve Hall.

Curran was proud of being selected and was eager to put in a strong performance to showcase his potential at an elite level.

“It’s an honour. I’m so glad to be able to represent my state and my culture,” Curran said.

“I’m there to do the hard work and do all the one percenters.”

“It’s going to be good to run out there, play with the NSW boys and to beat Queensland!”

The talented Curran had a strong 2014 season and after being named in the Eels Harold Matthews Cup side for the second year in a row is keen to help the Blue and Gold claim the title.

“It mean’s a lot to play for the Blue and Gold,” Curran said.

“I’ve always wanted to play representative footy for the Eels.”

“The Harold Matthews Cup was a good experience last year. To go around with the boys again in 2015 will be good and something I’m looking forward to.”

“We really want to give it a good shake and win the competition for Parramatta.”

Whilst Curran is focused on playing in the Indigenous clash, the tall rangy footballer has not let his sights slip by making sure he is making the most of his preseason and has his goals set for 2015.

“The training in the offseason is going good. The coaches have been working us hard and we’ve been getting pumped but it’s all been worthwhile. The coaches have been helping us on our game and improving on the little things,” Curran said.

“My goal for 2015 is just to get out there and play as many games as I can for Parramatta and to make the NSW State of Origin side”.

  • Joshua joins other Eels players such as: Troy Dargan, Michael Doolan, and Adam Campbell. That have recently been a part of the NSW Under 16's indigenous team. Hopefully Joshua has a good 2nd year in the Harold Matthews competition and can lead the junior Eels team deep into the finals.

Joshua is an edge forward at the moment.

  • If this is the sort of comment that will be put up I may as well close discussion now. Can't we just be happy that one of our local district players has made a rep team?

  • Agree Wiz, very racist stuff from the Aboriginals and the NRL making an all black Aboriginal team, i'm demanding a Klu Klux Klan team to play this Aboriginal team.

  • What about the Wog side , or the Asian side ? Where do they get a crack at it
