Hopgood could play 10mins at hooker if Hands needs a breather & Asi can't play dummy half, but, he's too good a player to be out of the 17 and a very competent mid game replacement for an injured Gutho, DB or Moses.
BA carried JA on the bench last year simply due to the fact if Moses or Brown went down in a semi he had cover as oppose to chopping and changing the squad mid game. With Asi on the bench you have the same thing but he can cover more positions. Hell, he could even fill in as a designated Lock, mainly hover around the middle, distribute a little bit, make a few tackles, could break the game open.
You have Gutho go down, Asi straight in. Moses or Brown goes down, in goes Asi. Hands goes down, Asi goes in. Simonsson or Penisini goes down, Asi goes in. He could even play wing if really needed to.
He is a perfect 14 for us. Bench of Asi, Matterson, Ofahengaue, Makatoa/Greig after round 22, is a top quality bench.
Treat him like Rankin in the reserves. Help develop the younger lads and if we need to call on him at some stage we know he can cover the spot to a degree
Yes, fatigue effects may come into it for Hands. Unfortunately Hodgson has shown he cannot play 80 and spell Hands for an entire game in the run to the finals.
"$500k isn't a reasonable offer considering the value of Lomax being an Australian and state of origin player! The money is really of no value to the Eels! The real question is the fact that Lomax has attempted now for the 3rd time in as many years…"
"It's come out now that during negotiations with Melbourne, we put forward that they take Matterson too. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
LOL much love and respect for Jim, you tha man."

Need to honestly consider Hands playing 80min with Asi on the bench
Agreed.

I think Asi could get away with playing a little bit of hooker.
Looks like he could for sure LB, im with you.

Absolutely, well said - really is the perfect 14.
He's making it very hard for BA to drop him even when DB returns.
He's not alone either. Few forwards are going to be unlucky to miss the 17 at full strength.
Only issue I have is if hands will get burnt out by seasons end. Games like tonight helps with us having 66% of the ball

I agree but we should be respectful about it. He's one of us. But yes I think Hands has gone straight past him by some margin.
