Josh Hodgson against Manly

Anyone else watching the Canberra v Manly trial? Hodgson looks like he's zoned out of Canberra his body language is average

Who knows maybe in second half he may pick up the gear but atm he has had a few awful passes leading to mistakes and has gone through some sets not even going in at dummy half

What does everyone think?

  • He didn't look happy being there.  He looked like he wanted to be anywhere but with the Raiders.

  • The Raiders looked so much better once Hodgson went off and Starling went on.

That's our future right there except he will be another year older.

My only hope is Hodgson has been bought as a back up hooker and we are looking at someone else.

If he is our 1st choice hooker next year we are well and truly fucked.

He try's to take over and control the play instead of letting his halves do it.

I honestly see no value in Hodgson other than as a back up hooker.

    • Well honestly BEM, his body language showed this relationship between Canberra and Hodgson is at the stage of staying together for sake of the kids. He has a contract to abide by and Starling uncertainty forces the Raiders to keep him to cover their asses. But Raiders also do not want him riding the bench or lower grades due to his 800K price tag.

Just hope it is Hodgson wanting to get to Sydney ASAP and plays amazingly for 2023. Could him and Sticky just not see eye to eye.

      • True but when it's mentioned that this could happen to us with the players we have leaving, everyone says they are professional players and won't do that.

So am I to believe Hodgson will do that at Canberra but Mahoney, Niukore, Papali'i and Kaufusi won't do that to us?

Maybe it's more the case that Hodgson is past his best and we have picked up an old past it hooker looking for a final pay day before retirement.

        • I will say BEM, Mahoney looked fine last week in his attitude and body language, now if he have a string of average performances could he lose interest? Maybe but seems like he is interested, for now anyway

Niukore would be as he left for right reasons so he will give his all for Parra, Ice I am not sure about, you would reckon he would

Stone same as Niukore just loves footy no matter what jersey he is wearing.

          • You seem to relate Hodgson to our players leaving BEM, all our players leaving without a "beef" IMO, just the "Doe".... whilst I agree it is not a professional approach by Hodgson and you could be right about a year older and slower but that doesn't seem to be the reason at Canberra.

Sticky seems to lose his players (mind/ cooperation) after a relatively short period. If I was in the Canberra executive, I would be looking to understand why? For someone that has thrown most of his bickies in the Pommie can....he hasn't done well nurturing these relationships.

    • RCG looked disinterested whilst at Penrith also.

Change of club, change of mind.

Wait and see how it goes.

      • I think with RCG, lack of confidence was there also. Penrith changed his running style and his performances suffered due to it. Confidence was down, performance was down, got dropped to bench then NSW cup.

I would not say he was disinterested, more so content that he was on the outer. Went from why sign him til 2025, to what bargain til 2025. Hodgson is gonna do wonders off the field.

        • RCG had lost confidence after his two  facial injuries which was understandable.

          • Yes but lost more confidence when Penrith changed his running style to avoid the injuries and his performances suffered due to it. Leading Penrith to sit him down and say he's not needed anymore.

We come in and he has a chip on his shoulder to prove them wrong.
