ok .... so this blog IS NOT about a rumour.

It does not say something outrageous like

- Wayne Bennett leaves St.George to mentor Stephen Kearney

or

- Greg Inglis signs with Eels for less than $100k because he just loves the team

you know I could write something like that, but why should I ....

anyhoo, enough wasting your time reading my blog, onto the meat (or spiced Tofu for us vegetarians!)

Did anyone else read the Telegraph yesterday or read the online version?

The Bulldogs are all laughing away at Parramatta letting Jono Wright go and the Bulldogs signing him up for a MEASLY $80k, while they watch all the issues we are having with Timana

ARRGGGGHHHHHH !!!

Ok, so Jono is not a former State of Origin player, or international with Timana's reputation or KNOWN potential ....

BUT ...

Jono is a young prospect with a nice bright future in front of him (anyone who watched any games he played for Wenty this year would have seen how the bloke was a clear cut above the rest of the field). Playing his preferred position of centre, he was starting to find confidence in himself and his abilities.

The bloke is a tall and rangy centre with a nice turn of pace.

YES, we have enough options at the moment, but for heaven sakes, wouldn't you all have preferred to see us keep Jono in the Blue and Gold rather than waste the team's money on other signings this year?

Am I alone in this?

You know, i will be MORE than happy for our team, under the Four Nations winning coach, prove me wrong with the roster we have.

I think SK is the man for the job at the moment with Parra ... but .... dang, I would have loved to have seen him stay in our colours a while longer.

And YES ... I know the old saying ..... "you can't keep them all" .... but surely, we could have afforded $80k.

anyhoo, I'll hop off my soapbox now!!

Cheers all!!

  • I would have liked for him to stay as I think we are a bit skinny in the centres.
I did see that article online yesterday and you know what if I was a bulldog supporter I would be laughing aswell. Our recruitment / retention due to what ever reason has been the laughing stock of the NRL.
  • agreed that Jono ALONE would not make a difference .... but the cumulative effect is perhaps the thing that hurts here.

but again, I will be MORE than happy to be proven wrong for 2011 with regards to player signings and retentions!
  • I agree 100%

I also agree with the bulldogs which makes me sick id pick a young up and coming centre such as him over tahu who was overpaid (i dont know what he is now on but he was on 300+ for a centre that isnt greg inglis??) has a dodge hamstring over 30.. I dunno what his issues are but he seems like a fuckin pre madonna to me. If SK said he didnt want him at the club who could blame him, everyone goes through rough times some ppl dont get time of to clear there head. Those who do should at least communicate with there Boss about why they are having time off and when they will be back.
  • it all comes back to ozzie mate.
  • No.....a thousand fold.

There was/is so many reason s why he wasn't given more first grade time.
More than I care to mention.

He is to much of a defensive and mistake riddled player to even risk having in your team.

Simply not even up to Jim Beam Cup Standard, that is the opinion of many very good football judges.

He will not last that long at the DOGS.
When we play them and he is in the team we target him big time, Guaranteed two tries at least.
  • He's a dud, not even worth 80k
  • Damn your blog is hard to read, I personally don't rate jono that much, he's good for depth but i never thought he was going to cement himself a starting spot and we didn't want to waste the cash.
  • To be honest, I never rated Jono Wright at all. He might have been a cut above the rest playing for Wenty, but he always looked way out of his league palying with the big boys. I can't say that I am upset about losing him, however if he would have stayed for $80k, then I would have kept him for depth purposes only. The Bulldogs can say that they are laughing, but he will be a reserve grader!!!
  • interesting banter.

    especially from Rob Kentwell.

If the Bulldogs are BS'ing us that Jono did not sign for 80k, but substantially more then i don't feel so bad.

For less than 80k, I thought he was a good junior to keep in the ranks and see how he blooms, but for more than $100k ... we should spend it on other developing players like Loko or O'Hanlon.

Cheers all on the thoughts and info!

I will leave you will some UN-PC advertising from years gone by, hope you enjoy

  • DK EEL,

those dogs wont be laughing when we spank them twice again next year like we have 8 out of the last 10 times.
