John Morris

Seems like his contract won't be renewed at sharks .

'what are your thoughts in the eels signing him as a assistant with view to take over BA in a couple or few years and BA possible staying in coaching director role .

'I think he did well coaching at the sharks, they are well drilled and if not for salary cap and Injuries they would do better  and also great at bringing young talent through . Also helps he is a ex-eel so knows the lay of the land

  • 1) Head coaches pick their own assistants.

    2) What makes you think BA is going anywhere anytime soon.

    3) There is no place for coaching directors at the professional level.

    • 1) ba may want him as a succession plan

      2) bas has coached us for many years there will be a time when his is due to pass on the baton which would be 2/3 years away unless wins a comp and may want to stay longer.

      3) not necessarily in that role - but when BA hangs up the clipboard would love him to remain in some capacity as he has shown the players love him and he has been good with cap and recruitment

      • The coaching succession plan is not up to BA, it's up to the board & CEO.
I think BA is a career coach, if and when he leaves the Eels it will be to another club.

  • He's done a reasonable job considering their roster.

    • I agree, not sure what else he could've been expected to achieve given that he inherited a roster loaded with the bloated contracts of Moylan, Johnson, Dugan & Fifita and then also the salary cap punishment on top of that.

He has overseen the regeneration of that roster with the likes of Briton Nikora, Will Kennedy, Toby Rudolf, Blayke Brailey, Bronson Xerri, (drug suspension notwithstanding), Jack Williams, Connor Treacy, Mawane Hiroti, Ronaldo Muitalo, Billy Maguoilis, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Siosifa Talakai, Teig Wilton.

      • I think people need to understandable that the General Manager Football (O'Neill) is not a automatic mutual to/from the coaching role. I would imagine that BA probably is not comfortable with the negotiating role that the GM would undertake.

Yes I would like him to stay has well, but not sure that role would be suitable and he would be omnipresent to a new head coach..

  • So the Sharks are signing Fitzgibbon. He's been an assistant for a long time but untested as a 1st grade coach. What makes him so special over Morris?

    • He is an assistant at Roosters that's it . Just like all those Bellamy clones , that clubs fell over to sign because they were an assistant to Bellamy . They are all fools .

    • This is purely the club wanting to show the members and fans that they are doing "something"

    • Great idea Mick.

I always like Morris as a player, always thought he was a bit of a quiet achiever.
