Joash Papali'i in talks with Parramatta

It was mentioned in the Jack Williams announcement, but here is some insight into Joash Papali'i. Apparently being brought in to compete with Isaiah Iongi for the Fullback role, which i think it futile anyway as Iongi is our Fullback. But it is interesting how Gus saw him as a Hooker in the making. Papali'i himself even mentioning how he could be a 14, playing anywhere. Ryles seems to want to bring in that Utility to Parramatta. A 14 that is a swiss army knife but at the same time a possible X-Factor to break the game open. Papali'i is speedy, could very well be that. He did play for NSW U19's at 14.

He also grew up a Parramatta fan, idolising Jarryd Hayne.

  • Interesting, he could be our Tyran Wishart type play. I know he is a long way off Wishart's ceiling, but it could work out.

    • Different type player to Wishart, naturally gifted and his pathway is blocked with Tracey and Taffe ahead him - Joash Papali'i is a exciting prospect.

  • Yeah plenty of talent, resembles RTS mixed with Kini but obviously will never be as good as either of those so cool your jets! But that style of elusive power running Outside back.

I think he will be a Fullback in Nsw Cup and a CTW for first grade depth.

I don't think he will be our Wishart/Watson, I do think that'll be Guthersons role and Twiddle will succeed him.

    • One thing for sure is there will be competition and that is what we've needed for some time.

      • 10000%

Absolutely mind boggling how easy it seemingly is now to find some talent and speed in the OBacks.

Between Iongi, Twiddle, and Joash we are looking really good!

        • Well it is young too, looking to the future with kids who can play now. Iongi is a Fullback, but both Twidle and Papali'i are Utility types.

Ryles is definately trying to make us younger and faster.

  • Bit surprised the Dogs would let Joash Papali'i go, LB?

He looked awesome in pre-season last year at fullback, tore the Storm edge (pre season teams) to shreds.

Would be a sensational signing if the Eels can make it happen.

Longhi is a great signing & this would be icing on the fullback cake. Longhi & Papali'i being mentored by Gutho, huge.

    • So exciting isnt is NOS!

      i ongi fyi :)

      Depth looking like:

      Pryke, Mataele, Doorey, Brazell,

      Moretti, Kelma, Hands, Hawkins,

      R.Penisini, Papalii,

      Alameddine, Twiddle, Martyn.

      • Absolutely, it might all fall in a heap, but, it's genuinely exciting to see we are going down a very different path.
