Jersey flegg

Whats the Matta with the team ? Some of the names in the side are well known players?

Do the coaching staff only focus on the first grade side ? Some of the juniors which have come through the system are not bad . Anyone please explain

  • Completely forgot about flegg

  • I understand that a lot of the players who are eligible are playing up a grade or 2, so the Flegg side would be full of SG Ball players.

  • Maybe because players like Brown, Kafusi, Stefano, Parry, Dunster and Salmon I believe( but could be wrong) are eligible but are playing higher grades or injured. There's 6 key players. Not to mention they have recently lost faingai, Mahoney, GL and stone out of their line up. Thats a fair whack of talent and experience. They are in a massive transitional period at the moment.

As these kids are being blooded into higher grades and seeing the results of Wenty and first grade so far this year I'd say that the injection of youth has been positive even though it weakens the Flegg. By your logic should we put them all back in Flegg to weaken first grade?  That's how every sporting club in Australia works. You pick your best players for your first grade team and if that weakens the lower grades then so be it.  No one remembers all the SG ball and Harold Matts comps we won. It's all about first grade.

There's obviously a plan in place to bring all these juniors through at once to hopefully play first grade and it seems to at least had a positive effect on the team so far.

Also I am not very up to date with the flegg team but the only people I'd consider well known are Sneider the hooker, Tapri the 5/8 and aufulo ( spelling unsure) the centre? Who else is there

    • Like Eels 93 said, we've promoted a lot of Flegg eligible players to either Wenty or first grade. Players like Brown and Utoikamanu are playing NRL and Wenty respectively and both are eligible for Flegg. That's the point of Flegg though, it's a development pathway. Ideally you are taking guys out of that side to play them higher and you then fill it with your teenage players. It'll take a few years to get the depth back at Flegg level because we've promoted so many players recently.
