Jennings as a winger

I was reading Drew Lauder's comment in the Bevan French blog, where he commented:

French will be the fulltime fullback and Gutho will eventually be a fulltime centre. 2 acl injuries I wouldn't be surprised if Gutho comes back at centre and makes that position his own,

I also see Gutho more as a centre than fullback, and if French does catch fire and gives BA no option but to retain him as fullback it means we have three very good centres for only two posts. Drew's answer to this was to put Jarryd on the wing, however the one scenario I haven't seen suggested is for Jennings to move to the flank.

As we know, Jennings is an out-and-out runner of the ball, and clearly Hayne and Gutho have superior passing abilities. Jennings is also exceptional out of dummy half and would be a real threat on the return of the ball. Arguably, he's closest to Semi in terms of pure running power and evasiveness.

In many ways it is a similar situation to kirisome auva'a, who successfully moved to that wing position at the end of last season.

It does beg the question, though, whether BA will consider just treating his outside backs as just that.

There is no reason with the talent he has on offer, as to why there should be any distinction between wing and centre. By switching up the work they have to do; ie rotating in terms of which of them drops back, you can keep them fresh, and in attack by switching over it means the defence can never feel comfortable, because your throwing different propositions at them all the time.

Obviously, in defence you can specialise - it would be dumb to move Jennings out of that centre position defensively, where he's best in competition.

  • It would also solve the conundrum of his poor passing ability.
  • If it means putting jennings on the wing or auva on the wing will i say jennings evey time hayne and Gutherson be our centres and french be fullback

  • Phil you'll have to do a team list where you have put every player out of their normal position. Gutho to hooker, Jennings to wing, Hayne to 6.

  • Who is jenkins?

    • Leeroy?
  • Nah Jennings as right centre. It worked last year and that's where he belongs. I wouldn't want to be the one to tell the halves our centres and wingers are going to swap around randomly. I bet you they would blow up.
  • Jennings is still one of the best centers going around, defensively outstanding, and is playing sensational football. Centre  and only centre is his position. Would not even consider him playing anywhere else. He is still truly a top shelf centre.

  • Why waste one of the best defensive centres in the NRL on the wing ??

Is this really the Phil who invented this site ? Wow I mean wasn't it Guth to hooker last time ?
