Jennings

For mine Jennings has been great this year. Def his best year in our colours. Should BA be looking to resign him now?? What's everyone's thoughts on resigning Jennings? How much and how long?

  • The switch to the right has certainly been a master stroke. It's amazing it hasn't been done previously in his career. I think he still has another year, but the club would almost certainly want to resign for another couple of years.
  • Ive been an unabashed fan Troy; always have; he has quality and his defence imo is always good. He's matured into a v good nrl player in my view and is a leader. Yes 2 more yrs...
  • He's been great. He's the glue that holds everything together and a game breaker when needed just like the penalty he won vs the Bronx.

  • Jennings has stepped up a level in the latter half of this season that's for sure. He didn't exactly set the world on fire early on though. I was saying that we should have sent him off and used his money to get Hayne back but I am now happy that we have him. While he isn't the attacking weapon he use to be, he is by far the best defensive center in the game.

My only concern with him, and it's only minor, is his age. He is closing in on 30 and has slowed a yard or two over the last year or two. Still not slow but not fast either and especially over longer distances the younger guys will run him down fairly easily. I wouldn't be signing him to any longer than a two year contract and not for more than $600-$650k. I hope he stays but we need to be at least looking towards the future and Auavaa is playing some good footy and is still relatively young. At the moment, I think he is our next best option unless one of the younger guys coming through step up.

Good on Jennings for his current form though and I am glad he is here.

  • Hes been playing great footy and was good last year too, hes a but underrated by a few eels fans i reckon, definitely re-sign him for 2 more, hes vital to our team and does everything like a pro.

    • No one can deny what he has done to our right side, especially in defence
  • In absolutely great form, and a real professional, defensively rock solid.Playing great football and still has speed even though he is approaching 30. Has been a standout, and a great mentor for our younger players, and has plenty of experience.Very very valuable and critical member of this team.
  • He was arguably one of our best players before he got injured. He was causing great headaches for team's when he got into dummy half and scooted up field, set up a few tries.

He is probably the best defensive centre in the comp and certainly still has the pace and skill to cause the opposition problems in attack.

I was never Jenkos biggest fan when he played for the Panthers and Roosters however he has won me over with his commitment to the jersey. I was worried he was taking a big money, long term deal and would just go through the motions. However he has done the opposite and has shown great passion for the blue and gold jersey and does a lot of dirty work each game. I think taking on a leadership role in the team has also brought the best out of him.

I believe many eels fans are a bit too harsh on his performances as mentioned above. I also think he still has 2 Years to go on his current contract and would wait until 2019 before making a decision on his future if that's the case.
  • I have no idea why Jennings is underrated at all. He came here on big money and big expectation and has delivered from day one. Sure he bombed a few tries by not passing to semi but he always looks dangerous with the ball with footwork and blinding off the mark speed.
Defence is impeccable. Never once have I seen a try that was solely the fault of Jennings being beaten or lazy.
    • Can't argue with any of that - big Jennings fan here too.

"I'm not suggesting throwing Lorenzo or any other young player in there now, they aren't ready, my point is they still won't be ready for a start in 2027 either so are we going to sign another 1 year stop gap 6 for 2027?."

"Thanks KN/ EA. Just checking my gut feeling. Hopefully, he stays & makes good on his potential. I like his upside: footy nous, big body, kicking game, goal-kicker. Ain't many sixes offering all that. He's called by many in RU as a "Sua'ali'i clone…"
