Jeff Robson: Would you have him back?

I've noticed that since Kelly has virtually been assured a start in Round 1 I got to thinking which former Eels halfback or indeed which NRL halfback that we could afford would actually make a difference in our side. In an ideal world we'd like Daly Cherry-Evans, Cooper Cronk or Johnathan Thurston. That's not happening any time soon though. However, Jeff Robson is a player I'd have in a heartbeat. He's a good organiser, doesn't overplay his hand, provides good ball and has a decent kicking game as well as being the best defensive halfback in the game. We sold him at the end of 2011 to make room for Chris Sandow. Since then Sandow has spent most of his time in Wenty with Robson becoming a key member of the Cronulla Sharks. Some may question Robson's impact at Cronulla given he has Todd Carney alongside him. However at the beginning of 2013 Cronulla won 6 matches straight, Robson won 3 MOTM awards, Gallen 2 and Carney 1. That demonstrates how well Robson can play. Not only has Robson played well at halfback but he's also done an admirable job at hooker. He's a genuine organiser who can ball-play and kick out of dummy-half. He's not Cameron Smith but he would've done a better job than Matt Keating. If Robson were to become available would you want him back at Parramatta? At the very least we could play him at hooker and Sandow at halfback, allowing Robson to organise from the ruck.

  • Of course youd have him back compared to Kelly and sandow, but doubt he will be available to come back, id prefer Maloney back but he wont be coming back either.

  • Not excited about that at all but if he was available and at the right price then I s'pose so. Surely we could unearth someone like a Brooks from somewhere. Hell DCE was only 22 when he first arrived on the scene. Don't we have someone like that somewhere in the 20's now. How old's Lussick's bro??

    • Relax on Brooks. The kid's played 1 game and beat a directionless St George. He's talented but I think we should give him a little more time before we start talking about him like he's a future legend.
    • Joey Lussick is 18 turning 19 in December and tbh I don't think we have any potential stars in the halves currently in the Under 20's. Our next halves that have the potential to be stars are in our SG Ball team, Troy Dargan, and Michael Doolan. Both possess a great running game (Doolan's is slightly better), a solid passing game, good kicking game, and both are footballers and for their age can read the play very well.

I assume that these two had a fair bit to do with Bevan French's 5 tries on the weekend.

    • The same way we can just let Sandow go Paul?
    • We already have potentially one of the best halves in the game with Hayne why dont we just move him?
  • IMO a good player underrated & undervalued, unfortunately does not fit in with our culture. We only want players with potential. Proven talent with a solid work ethic not r credentials we require or respect. Just not flashy enough & does not miss enough tackles to make in our FG team.

Nope, he is better off where he is.

    •  I go along with that MP. I think it reached its apex under Anderson. He did not want Robson and Finch walked because he knew he was not wanted. I don`t think the Eels are over that rubbish yet.

  • Sorry Robert but sometimes I get a little frustrated with our club's culture. We have become losers & soft & it sometimes gets to me particularly when I lack confidence in some of the appointments that have been made.

Loyalty & hope versus opinion I guess.

  • Robson at the Eels did his job without any fuss or fanfare. I wonder if we would have still won two spoons if we had kept him?
