Jason Cayless Leaves England

Hey guys hope your all well.I have been reading around and heard that a former eel, Jason Cayless, has quit England and is returning to Australia. He suffered a shoulder injury from a chicken wing tackle and hasnt been able to recover since. He is still only 28 years ol.d I think if we have still got $50000 and he would like to come back to parra to join his brother he would be an excellent buy. I was reading in one report the chairman of his current club said, I would like to wish him luck back in Australia. This could only mean one thing, he is going to join an NRL club. The only to possible outcomes I could think of are his two formers clubs, Sydney Roosters and Parramatta Eels.

  • Thanks for the scoop Mathew,

I think the Eels should consider him for 2010, at 28 he still has at least 1 or 2 good years in him. That would complete our killer forward pack and also make up for the loss of Joey G.
  • Latimore and Paulo.
  • I remember back in 2002 thinking that we let the wrong Cayless go.
Jason had a great few seasons with the Roosters. It would nice to see him come back home.
    • My thoughts exactly Camo, I always considered Jason to be superior of the two!!!

For the right price I would consider him but if they can cough up money for him I think they better cough up for Lowrie or Kingston first!!!!
  • The reality is he has barely played for the past two seasons and has a significant injury issue. I don't think any NRL club would throw big money at him.

It would seem a pretty fair chance to me that he could return to the club for 2010, to play alongside his brother in his final year in a side that is going to be pretty firm favourites to win the competition. It wouldn't be a lot different to what Ben Ross is doing for Souths to get his career back on track.

Don't forget we still have a second tier salary cap of $350k to play with.
  • Lowrie. He's been awesome. And I never thought I'd say that.
  • And PS... where are we going to put all these players if we keep buying them? My understanding was an NRL forward pack constituted 6 players, so far the only forward we appear to have let go was Joe to Manly.
    • No so mate. We've now let go three of our top 25 - Joe, Josh Cordoba and Brod Wright and we've only bought 2 - Poore and Shackleton. Then there is the two we have off contract - Todd and Junior P.

I still think we need another prop. You want to go into a season IMO with at least six blokes who can play prop - so far we've only four genuine props, plus Shackleton who can push up to front row. Its going to be even more imperative next year, given that Poore will play State of Origin, I reckon Fuifui will be there for the Kiwis.
      • I don't think you'd see too many people crying over losing Cordoba. Even Cordoba! Or Junior P - big BUT lazy. They were the bad old days at the Eels. Just because they once wore an Eels jumper doesn't mean we have to keep them for life (Finch a case in point).
        • cordobas already gone mate, released to superleague.
