jarryd not @ 6

I'm simply sick of seeing people saying they want jarryd to play 6 this year. why, may i ask? if you look closely at the back end of 09 and some patches of 10, hayne's magic came from being able to "inject" himself into the match at any given point. now why should SK limit hayne to playin 6 when having the 1 on his back gives him right to play ANY position on the field? imagine limiting hayne to one side of the field, and his only focus was to set up tries, he would lose so much strike.

aside from the need for him to inject himself at parra, we need him playing as many minutes as possible wearing the 1. simply because he needs as much time as possible to learn positioning in defense and such, not simply for parramatta, but for SOO as well. hayne will face tough competition from the likes of stewart and dugan next season, so he needs to up his game.

in short people, please get the idea of hayne playing number 6 out of your minds, we SHOULD not limit him to a single side of the field. allow him to sum up the defensive patterens and structures of the opposition, and then make his OWN decision as to when he wants to inject himself into the game..

one more thing...

  • I agree.

I like Hayne at fullback best, for now anyway. Don't be surprised if Hayne plays a different game from fullback in 2011 though. I say this because Kearney said after NZ's Four Nation win that he told Marshal to get more involved.

I'm not sure what Kearney will do. I think he'll either get Hayne playing less risky but be involved the whole game, or similarly to the Four Nations and inject him when the Eels need a boost. I also think he be pivotal in attack within the opposition's 20.
  • not only do i like hayne at No.1 but so does hayne, hes already said numerous times thats where he wants to be and stay, not only for the Eels but for NSW origin and Australia also, hayne is someone you dont wanna take out of his comfort zone, and im glad they chose to put him at FB for 2010 Origin too because he deserves it more than useless gidley
  • exactly, and i think if they picked farah at 9 and carny and pearce at 6 and 7 well be ok.. might lose a few more series but then itll be nsw's turn to dominate SOO. the reason why i want farah at 9 is cause he's more creative than ennis, and knows how to be disciplined. captain for nsw should be either hayne, carney pearce of farah

  • Yeah i'd have Farah as captain, he does a good job for the tigers. I actually think Hayne's in trouble of losing his position at fullback to Stewart for SOO, especially if he doesn't work out his defensive kinks!
    • I have it on good word that Stewart's knees are that bad he will never be as quick as he once was. Hayne and dugan will be the ones fighting it out for the fullback position

  • playing at 6 does not limit you to 1 side of the field...10 years ago it did not anymore.

giving hayne free licence at the back creates confusion in the halves, just like last year they did not know what the next play was going to be. GIVE IT TO HAYNE AND SEE WHAT HE CAN DO, that was our only play and nothing will change this year.

@ 6 he calls the shots...he kicks when he wants to. he runs when he wants to. and most importantly it gives the team some structure start building some plays and set pieces. mortimer and robson have no structure no leadership and no kicking game.

let other teams target him, that's what makes the better players lift. having him walking around out the back and scoring 100m tries every 4 or 5 games does nothing. and the most important thing is WE HAVE NO HALVES..If we did i'd be happy to see him at fullback..and state of origin i dont give a sh** we havent won a comp in 20 years and people are talking about state of origin ?

  • Could agree more EELS4lyf. When watching the Eels game against the Dogs late in the season (when Hayne scored the first two tries in the first few minutes of the match), particularly in the first half, Hayne played a traditional 5/8th role. His passing set up his own try (off the break from Tahu and Burt) as well as two to Inu on the right wing. This was due to the fact that the Dogs overcommitted to him in defence after his mesmerising first try. You could see their defence honestly had no clue where Hayne would bob up or what he would do. This is the advantage you have in granting him a roving commission from fullback.

In the second half, he pulled off that miraculous try saving tackle on David Stagg from the fullback position. People, we have in Jarryd Hayne one of the most gifted footballers of the modern era - and he's getting the job done from fullback - where he wants to be - so why fix something that isn't broken??

If Hayne got more support from the 6, 7 and 9 we wouldn't be having this conversation.

  • He should be #6...for the Australian cricket that is. His latest tweet jarrydhayne_1Solid 46 runs of 18 balls. Wasn't going to play Xmas cricket but it looked like to much fun. That's better than some of the other players

  • fullbacks don't run around throwing 20m cut out balls and putting wingers over untouched, or kicking 40/20's, or taking 2 players over the line with him, or put up bombs that hang up in the air forever. (playmakers do that)

why does hayne do that for us ?   A fullback is a fullback...takes bombs, try saving tackles, makes open field breaks and hangs around other players waiting for an offload.  Duggan, slater, stewart all play traditional full back roles.

if he wants to play like a 6 or 7 than put him there..

Give hayne the ball 4 out of the 5 tackles in every set 20m out..just like the big guns do

500k + he has to be our gunplayer running everything

  • But he does all those things as you said he does but he also makes open-field breaks (may I refer you to this bit of footage from 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J97ksS-e80 and also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUTL0MBqBYQ) the second one comes from him snooping around the ruck.

So basically he is a big gun wherever he plays, he can play as a playmaker but he can also play a "traditional" fullback role
