Jarryd Haynes Contract

Hey guys i know we definately don't want to lose him but do you think it would be worth asking to Jarryd to take a pay cut in the up coming negotiations. Maybe 2 million over 5 seasons? With some potential salary cap issues coming up i don't think it would be a bad idea to explain to him that we want to keep a strong team around him. Thoughts?

  • No. Jarryd is now officially our best player and one of the best in the NRL. It should be guys like Burt, Cayless and the like taking pay cuts... not Hayne.
    • Agree. He's probably already sacrificed some cash to stay as it is. I imagine the Broncos would have been keen to throw a heap of coin at him now that K.Hunt is going to AFL. And with lockyer a chance of retiring at the end of 2010, they'd have a heap of money available to spend.
  • surely it would now be easier for ozzie to find third party sponsors after a GF appearance...?
couldn't they cover the salary cap problems?
  • I'm happy with the amount touted for Jarryd's contract. However, if it is worth asking when this is going to be finalised. While its been reported he's agreed to terms, nothing appears to have been signed yet!
  • There are protocols in place for injuries. the club would be dumb not to chuck clauses in there that allow the club to get out of the contract if he loses form/becomes injured for an extended period of time. Based on this years form (which most contracts these days are based on) he is worth every penny of the 500k.

If you look at the squad we have, we have been able to fit in a lot of players, with Cayless and Burt close to retiring, you'd figure that when other players contracts expire we will be able to replace them as well.
  • All the great players were on the big dollars, like lockyer, johns and thurston and while he's not a great at the moment, he still has to be consistent, he will definately be name amongst these players. My mail also is that he will take the third party payments of about $150,000 that Hindmarsh was previously recieving.
  • Parramtta's board have worked the cap for next years roster and the big difference is that we will not repeat 2002 when we performed badly after the 2001 GF with Newcastle.MyOpinion is get your tickets early to avoid disappointment as the eels have enough firepower & depth for 2010
