Jarryd Hayne to 6?? NO!!!

I see plenty of blogs talking about Hayne to 6 and Walker at fullback. I haven't read them all but PLEASE? Why? Does anyone remember Ando's experiment? Hayne was at 6 at the beginning of 09' and it wasn't working it wasn't long after his switch to fullback that our season began to turn around. He was responsible for the most amazing run of form from any individual ever in that 6 weeks that he took 18 Dally M points, all from fullback. Hayne should  not be part of the "structured" part of the team, he needs to float and that is best for him and the team. If he is 6 he will be much easily marked than this year.

As for Walker at 1 as anyone seen him under the high ball or even attempt to tackle? Hayne is also an asset to the team with his safe hands and solid defense. But, he is most effective when he is "fresh" in attack. If he was at 6 he would defend in the line and be spotted all the time hence making 30+ tackles a game and having no fuel for attack or being in a position to make those explosive runs from a kick return.

It's not about having our beat player at 6, it's about having our best player in the position that suits him the best and what is best for the team.

  • I totally agree you do not move the best fullback in the world to a position he has proven he is not suited to in order to cover up the recruitment ineptness from this year. Jarryd is a fuillback and you wouldn't see Melb Scum playing little Billy at 5/8 to cover Inglis would you.
  • so very true Brett.
  • Why start another blog on it ? Just post your opinion in the blog that already exists. Once more and you get trashed with it. Don't mess with the new moderator The Ken.

  • True Brett but it would be good to see the slug get smashed at 5/8
  • I did it because I can. The other blogs on here about it were "Pro 6". I am obviously against it and started a fresh blog accordingly.
  • Thanks for the clarification. I guess since I am neutral on having Hayne at 5/8 I had better start a new blog also.

  • I agree totally that Hayne should stay where he is at fullback, he is one of the worlds best. But 2010 proved that he has the football mind to conjure up plays as good as any half inthe comp. Robson and Mortimer were quiet and unreliable in attack this year and I think that many times Hayne should have been wearing both thier numbers on his back aswell as his own.
His kicking and passing game are amazing, and I think that if we were able to unearth another solid and safe fullback in the next couple of seasons, he will once again be in the halves.
  • You make excellent points but really the proposal doesnt need rebuttal . The proposal has been done to death and every time I look at these blogs I see another one saying that SK should move Hayne to 6.
SK has emphatically stated that Hayne will stay at fullback.
This is the end of story. He is the coach and that its that....... to all those wanting Hayne to move to 6 - Lets move on !
I know its the off season when I read ANOTHER blog titled "Hayne should be moved to 6!!'

It wasn't 17 vs 17 today it was 17 vs 18 and the 18th man had the final say. Absolutely disgraceful from Klein."
