Jarryd Hayne appreciation thread

I think given the news of Folau signing with GWS, it's worth recognising the decision that Jarryd Hayne made to stay in League.

As Bourbon Man said in another thread: "I'm just happy we locked up Hayne because it reality, how attractive would he have been to the GWS? Western Sydney boy who can run, catch, pass and kick!!"

I'm sure the AFL would have thrown as much money at Jarryd - indeed I'm sure he'd be an even better AFL player than Folau - and he is a true Western Sydney hero and had just won the Dally M award, so his signing would have been an ever great coup.

Yet he stayed loyal to the Eels and to Rugby League.

Some have given Jarryd a bit of stick for talking about how NRL players should be able to be paid more, but the reality is, he has almost certainly given up hundreds of thousands of dollars - and probably approaching seven figures - to stay with his club and his code. How many of us would have done that?

As both Hunt and Folau has shown that's an almost irresistible temptation for a young man, and there are certainly no guarantees that this type of money will be around when Jarryd's current NRL contract expires and both new AFL clubs are set and established.

So Jarryd Hayne I salute you. You are the man.

  • Very nicely put. I agree with everything you've said and Jarryd if you're reading this:
WEEEEEEEEEEE LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU ( insert home alone 2 hotel scene enthusiasm)
  • Agree 100%
  • So let's just remember this if Jarryd ever has an extended lean period - which he may do at some point in time. Good points - would have been very hard for him to turn down the cash (and yes, he would probably have been more likely to make it in AFL due to his explosive pace and already present kicking skills)
