Jarryd Hayne and The Parramatta Eels - Ideas Time

Hayne has left the team, but can he lift our club to great heights from the outside? For mine, the possibilities could be enormous. One of our greatest ever players is about to make the roster of an NFL team. One of our greatest ever is making headlines in the USA in a globally followed game. Even within Australia, the national media have picked up the story and people in AFL States are becoming familiar with his name.As Jarryd Hayne's name becomes increasingly famous, so too should the Parramatta Eels. They talk about his "rugby" background, which has become perhaps more of a promotion for Union than it has for league. So what should the NRL and more specifically Parramatta do to promote our brands? In my opinion, we should be bombarding the NFL media with his highlights package. No doubt it's been done to an extent but I wonder how much of this is by osmosis through the Youtube clips. I wonder whether it could be re-cut and packaged to suit their understanding. Eg show his NFL related skills in one part of the highlights - his step, his fend, his acceleration, his running in traffic. Then separately illustrate his other skills that they will never see - the pass, the kick and chase etc.Showcase our game, our club.Locally, imagine an NFL style Jersey in Parramatta colours with number 38 on it, and Hayne on the back. How well would that sell as part of Eels merchandise? No doubt plenty of 1eyed readers could come up with ways for our game and our club to take advantage of Hayne's incredible journey. Parramatta should be a part of it. When people hear his name, they should always think about the Eels.He has always loved our club and still does.Let's become a big part of this ride!

  • That is way too clever for the Nrl mate. They would block it and say that it gives us an unfair advantage in attracting third party agreements.
    • I fear that mate. But through the success of Hayne, Parramatta are in a unique position to promote itself that no other club has ever come close to. The NRL should embrace that.
    • Yeh all proceeds to be included as part of our cap
  • We do not need the dropkick jokes (NRL) to sign off on this.

I am pretty sure there are members on this site that can make the NFL style EELS jersey a reality.

  • I was thinking the same, any road blocks the NRL puts forward should be challenged in court as a restriction of trade.
Just need a board with a brain and backbone.
First step, bombard the internet with Hayne Eels jerseys (EBAY, Amazon), when people search Hayne jersey (shirt, cap, jacket) an Eels version should pop up along side the 49ers ones.
  • sixties with ideas like this you should be running the marketing dept of Parra and NRL. In all honesty its a superb idea. Imagine Parra hats going like hotcakes with No. 38 on it....

  • The NRL needs to develop a think tank

MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA ! You can be a very funny bloke at times Poppa.

NFL offered the Souths v Panthers game to be played in HAWAII with an NFL game to be played in Oz (Sydney?) and the NRL squashed it faster than a Cane Toad under your car tyre at 100 kph.

  • I like it!

  • Been thinking exactly the same 60s and talking to mates about it. I think we should actually hire a marketig company and do it right rather than just pass it on to someone within the club or heaven forbid rely on the NRL as Clive said way to smart for those clowns. We should firstly make him our ambassador in the U.S and use him for promos over there. Our Jersey and couloirs are being seen by a much bigger audience and we need to capitalise on it in particular via social media and our website. Incredibly I have seen nothing about Jarryd from the eels Instagram because again people thinking small. I know some clowns on here will say get over him he is no longer an eel but it's not about that, it frustrates the heck out of me

    Clowns.
    • I can largely forego the clowns as well.

The Hayne brand will soon be collossal and any promotion by us will also be good for Jarryd.

I can see, in the future, him returning to Sydney with his team-mates to play an exihibition at ANZ to a sell-out crowd. Wouldn't that be great?

Yeah, we need to promote this guy.
