Unfortunately if we don't get Orford we're going to have problems again next year. There aren't many halves off contract now next year. Maloney at the Warriors is the most likely but he signed for two years with an option on a third. I'm assuming that option was his way.
Given that we are unlikely to secure a halfback messiah, I think we should be doing the same as the Knights. Let's use our excess money to lock up some of our young stars long term. Mannah, Horo, Loko, Mitchell etc. Let's reward them and hopefully young Mortimer, Murray and Humble will mature next year under a different coaching regime. If there is no improvement in our half prospects by the end of next year, let's throw the kitchen sink at Maloney.
Well if we don't get a halfback - which is looking incresingly likely I think the only option is to play Hayne at 6 and give him primary ball playing and general kicking duties. If that doesn't happen then I agree 1 eyed we could be in for another long season.
"Or should it be the other way around, Tad? Can't win a game if you start off way behind the 8-ball? Like Dragons game? Must win first 20? Build that to first half? Be in it with 20 to go? etc?"
"If the Eels concede 40+ for 8x games but win 6-0 last 10 mins of each game, nope, I reckon that won't generate 'but right path'! I'm inclined to think honourable losses might generate 'right path' but blowout losses, or absolutely never in the game,…"
"NOS, I caught the Ryles press conference from this morn or yesterday, and he basically said Brown is either 18th man or not playing. So, no reserves purgatory for Dylan, I suspect a PR thing for Dyldoheads ongoing career? BUt Ryles also ruled out…"
