James Maloney retires

James Maloney has decided 2021 will be his last, after 13 seasons with Melbourne, Warriors, Sydney City, Cronulla, Penrith and a stint in France with Catalans Maloney is set to head home. All i know is regardless of who is coach in 2022 i will be ringing him and annoying him to come to our club in some sort of coaching role. The man has confidence, a footy mind, a calm head if Flanagan got the gig he could add him to the staff as he coached him to a 2016 title. Even if BA is here in 2022 he should consider it.

  • Talk about a missed opportunity. He was our junior playing for Wenty and we let him walk.
Funny thing about him, he was definitely a winner but he bounced around from club to club. Unusual for such a high calibre player. Apparently he's super annoying lol

    • But no doubt can add some insight to a club, proven winner and won two premierships and was with Warriors in 2011 GF, Catalans leading ESL with him there too. He will never be a head coach but as an assistant i believe he is valuable.

      • I completely agree. Can you imagine BA wanting someone that knowledgeable around him? Ha

    • Well in the blog I state he would be a good assistant to have?

  • He wasn't a eels junior as many state but he was a eels reserve grade player it's a shame for whatever reason people within the club at the time didn't see him as a long term option they instead invested in our young halves at the time Mortimer,Keating,Kelly it's funny how hindsight works lol..

He had a very good career and turned into a top shelf half.

  • But we already have an Immortal on the coaching staff. Why would we need anyone else?

    • Because JoeyDrugs are recreational and make you feel slow.

FlanaganDrugs, however, are anabolics all the way and will have them feeling immortal in no time

  • Baby Jake will develop

  • Maloney with Flanagan would be a great combo..

    • Add Steve Price to that too, he's coming home to Australia and worked with Flanagan for three years.
