Parramatta Eels utility Jake Arthur set to cut ties with father Brad Arthur

Parramatta’s father-son duo could soon become NRL rivals, while the governing body makes a call on forward pass technology. It’s all in Sport Confidential.

The whispers are growing louder that Parramatta half Jake Arthur may be about to sever ties with his father, Eels coach Brad Arthur.

Arthur has been stuck behind Mitchell Moses at Parramatta but he gets a chance to showcase his talents this week with Moses sidelined following a concussion.

His call-up to first grade comes as his future at Parramatta comes under the spotlight. Sport Con understands that several clubs have been contacted to gauge whether they have any interest in signing Jake Arthur for next season.

There has even been talk that he could be free to go before the August 1 deadline. That’s unlikely to happen given Arthur is a quality insurance policy for Parramatta’s existing halves. Further, neither the Eels nor Brad Arthur want Jake to leave.

However, there is a recognition that if he wants to become a permanent first grader, he may need to look elsewhere. As a result, it would be a surprise if he was still at the Eels next season given his path to first grade is blocked by Moses and five-eighth Dylan Brown.

The club also has Ethan Sanders in its ranks. Sanders is a member of the Junior Blues and smart judges expect him to be a 10-year first grader.

  • Good on him , hopefully he takes a gig at a decent club and not sone hiding to nowhere like The Tigers .  He will go ok playing somewhere in some team .

    • His ONLY chance of being a first grader is to find a coach that can develop him. The clock is ticking or he will forever be a reserve grade player. His old man is not the guy to take him to the next level

  • FMD I nearly choked with laughter reading that dribble!

No dad, no first grade career. Simple.

Like with every contract upgrade and 2 year extensions he has been given....  the eels are competing with absolutely NO ONE for his services.

Good luck to him, hopefully dad pisses off too and we can start the rebuild that everyone except the board and Mark O'Neil saw coming- amature hour clowns.

    • X fucking a billion

      shameful behaviour

    • It's patently obvious for anyone with two eyes and half a brain that if it wasn't for BA, JA never ever plays first grade.

In saying that I wish him well with wherever he ends up playing.

      • many commentators have said they see potential in the kid, but the average punter doesnt. Explains why we are footy spectators and not administrators.

Just trying to understand the massive gap in opinion. Fair dinkum question and yes i seen him play

        • What commentators have you heard even criticise BA? Zero.

If they criticise his son they are essentially criticising BA and they won't do that under any circumstances.

    • Lovely comedy piece, several clubs? Merrylands A Grade?

  • A club like Canberra would be good for him, at a club that has stable management like Stuart (Let's be fair, he is as safe as BA) and no media so no pressure really.

Or even going to a club like the Warriors who still do not know who their 6 is and Johnson is ageing.

          • 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 go Carlo !
