JAKE ARTHUR!

I'm not a fan of bagging players that try as much as they can. Effort is 1 thing that J Arthur isn't lacking. Unfortunately,  to play at the top level in the position he is at ( in the halves) you either must be a great ball player,  or have speed/ power and be a running half. J Arthur doesn't have either.

I may be crazy,  but I do see something Jake could do to make him a much better player.  Jake is 1.88 cm tall. If he could increase his muscle mass and put on about 20kgs or more,  Jake could become a top line edge forward. Ryan Matterson also started as a #6 before making the move to the backrow.

I would like peoples opinions on this.

  • I have a felling JA may eventually end up playing Lock/second row provided and once he fills out a bit.

I can see him moving there a lot like Wayde Graham did.

For the nay sayers I am not saying be will be as good as Wade Graham just same sort of role.

Obvously he has to improve defence etc to do that but it wouldn't suprise me at all.

Thats the only path i see him taking if he ends up playing for a long period in the NRL or he has to go to the UK.

    • Prolong the agony

    •

At this stage it is impossible to predict whether JA would be a success as a backrower or not.  Edge forwards today have a simple job to do in attack, things are more complexed whilst defending. If JA wanted to make the move at this stage of his career, if successful, his future would be much brighter than what he is doing right now.

      • "if successful, his future would be much brighter than what he is doing right now".

This is the point, we can all see he won't make in the half's.

Maybe he goes back to reserves and plays half until a young SG ball or HM pushes him into the second row.

Either that or goes to Super League.

  • Yes, it would be nice to see Jake do well/prove the doubters wrong considering the utterly appalling shit he gets on this fan site

    • Mate every player is open to constructive criticism regardless of who they are.  If him and his dad want him to play then he's going to have to take the criticism

        • Yeah right Dr. Wrong

    • If you think my comments are to critical then your wrong, I honestly believe once he fills out more he would make a good transition into second row and potentially be great at it.
Would love nothing more for him to become a very good ball playing lock much like the transition of Wayde Graham and Matterson.

He has the height and looking at him playing on Friday night I think he has already started to fill out a bit, could be wrong but he just looked a little wider across the shoulders then last year.
Suggesting a new position is not being critical it's for seeing a strength that I think he has and about adapting his game to suit that strength.

I can see him playing lock hitting the line and throwing a deft little pass to set up tries. He produced a nice little pass the other night and has done it a few times before. He doesn't have the great ball playing skills of mosses and Brown in the half's but I think he has a nice short passing game to set players at the line.

  • Try as much as they can? For all the trying JA puts in there would be at least 100 if not a 1000 guys that are trying just hard if not harder that never even have a chance. Its nepotism pure and simple. If JA was not in the Parra system he would never get a run in first grade. If he thinks otherwise he should put himself on the open market and see how he goes.

  • I don't get why so much hate for a Parra junior. He is only 20 years old which everyone is forgetting. He has done some good things and not so good things, but that all comes with experience. He has played 19 games with most of them coming off the bench and minimum minutes.

Yes he got thrown in the deep end last year because of the injury clouds over brown and Moses. Can see him getting alot of time in NSW cup if we don't get injuries, but he has done well compared to some other players going around, especially for being so young.

The only reason all the hate is because it's BA's son. Just see what happens with him and support him.
