JA Shouldn't Be Booed

If you were at the game last night, you will have heard Jake being booed during the team list and when he came on during the match.

Regardless if you agree or disagree with his selection, he should not be booed for pulling on the blue and gold.

He's been asked to be in the 17, he shouldn't be booed simply for doing his job.

There is a separate discussion regarding whether he fits into the 17 but he doesn't deserve to be attacked simply for being selected.

He's done nothing wrong here. No footy player is going to turn down being selected for first grade.

Hell, the side's performance as a whole deserved to be booed, but Jake's barely 5 minutes on the field didn't impact that result.

Criticise his selection if you want, but booing a young player simply for being selected, when he hasn't done anything wrong, isn't on.

    • Everyone knows why morons are doing it. It still doesn't justify it.

        • BA has complete control over his 17.

  • No one should try to justify the booing. Booing an Eels player is simply a disgraceful act and anyone who did that should be ashamed of themselves.
I don't agree with JA's selection. There are many who don't. That still doesn't justify booing one of our own.
Perhaps instead of booing just shut up. It's fine not to cheer but to boo is appalling. Shame on anyone who did that.

  • It's pro sports. It's a tough arena.

Fans are going to express themselves passionately both good and bad. I'm not one to boo and have never bood Jake but Brad and everyone involved in this selection would be stupid to think it was going to go any other way .

Read these message boards .. check any social post relating to the Eels .. it's everywhere and unavoidable. Are the comments by opposition fans mocking his selection ok coz they're not Parra supporters? It's a harsh world , a heavily scrutinised world and he's better off at another club . If you see that the selection is based on favouritism and not giving us the best chance to be successful I understand why people paying their hard earned are pissed off . Should be directed at his father but what can you do .

  • I'm not bogan or ridiculous enough to boo anyone for playing Rugby League but I do say this; I don't think people are booing Jake himself, they are booing the selection. And not necessarily on the grounds of nepotism but on the grounds it doesn't make any logical sense

    • Why wasn't Opacic booed, then? Yeah, he's a more cemented first grade player. But position wise, he covers about as much as Jake does.

      • Well at least Opacic can possibly cover back row and backline positions etc. he's also as you say - an experienced nrl player who can be asked to shift in and do a job as required. Didn't agree with that one either though

    • I would say if you boo the selection it should be at BA when his face pops up.

The only other time i heard fan dismay when team was announced at the ground was when Luke Burt was dropped for Cheyse Blair, fans wanted Burt back.

  • Super how do you stop the booing? Just because you buy a ticket it's not a licence to behave in a feral way - it's just one of them things that cannot be policed, yes it's in poor taste and not many people on the site are directly blaming JA - the source of frustration is BA use of the bench which doesn't make sense

A shuffle where BA goes to Souths, Woolf stays at the Phins, and Bennett comes to Parra would probably be as close to a win-win-win as you can get."
