Juventus FC were caught up in a match fixing scandal in the Italian Serie A in 2006
This is the Italian "Soccer league" for those who don't follow European football.
As a result, they were stripped of thier titles for 2005 & 2006 and they were demoted to Serie B.
Inter Milan, the team that finished second, were awarded the title for both years.
As there is no semi final/playoff system in european football, it made sense to award the title to Inter Milan as the premiers are the ones who accrue most points after a 38 week year.
Now i know i might get crucified here, but i don't think the Eels should be awarded the title for 2009. There are just too many variables involved with having a playoff system. There are just to many "if storm wern't in the top 8" scenarios. I don't want to win the title like this.
Now, i also believe that there are many other clubs that have cheated the cap and are currently cheating the cap. IMO, the Storm were unlucky and got caught. Ok, strip their titles but atelast allow them to earn points for this year.
This is just my opinion.
Either way, hopefully this should act as another incentive for the Eels to bring home the title this year.

Let's take a horse race. Say Melbource Cup winner is subsequently swabbed and disqualified, the second horse wins. It doesn't matter that the third horse was held in a pocket by the winner and has rights to claim it could have won had that horse not been there.
A drug-disqualified runner has knocked out numerous runners along the way that might have gotten to the finals had that person not been there, all who could claim they would have gone on to win gold otherwise.
You can't deal with what ifs, you can only say who finished second and award them the premiership.
In my view we were the number two team in 2007 as well when we got beaten in the semi-final but I think Manly as runner-ups deserve that title.
A sporting competition must have a winner. It just must.
We are owed the premiership so give it to us.

Leave out the what ifs and hand the trophy over. Having the record books left blank for 07 & 09 is a disgrace and it just doesn't look right, our fairytale run last year was stopped by a bunch of dirty cheats - players and coach included.
Sure it won't be the same as wining the GF but we will do that this year.
AND as for letting the storm earn points this year, how embarrassing would it look for the NRL if the storm won the premiership this year!

There is no way we can look back in the future and see that nobody won in 2007 or 2009.
The team that won cheated so Manly are the premiers for '07 and we are the premiers for '09.

BTW who is to say that the teams melbourne beat leading into the Grand Final couldn't have beaten us. MAYBE it was one of their wins over a team competing for the 8th spot on the ladder got us into the 8. If say, they beat the rabbits late in the season (in a game they shouldnt have won due to cheating) then maybe we dont make the finals at all... Too many variables to be handing premierships to runners up..... Dont want it anyway.
either wipe the season as it stand, so parra dnt make the gf, and theres no dragons minor premiership, or
if u want to regognize that our eels made it, then u have to have them be a runner up to something...

The NRL had ignored the variables. By just ignoring the title existed that year.
No its not how i want to win it, but the records should show that the winner that year cheated therefore the runners up who were parramatta have been awarded the title. We can wait for us to win it on the day it will come. Just coz u missed out on celebrating doesn't mean the club should be regongnized for its achievements.
U go back in history, there is alway a runner up, and a minor premier, and a Premier.
If there is no Premier, tthere cannot be a minor premier. there cannnot be a premier, there cannot be a GF, etc, etc,
this is not a decision for the fans, This is a decision for the Reputation of the NRL and the history of the Parramatta eels club
