It's time to become australias team

Anyone that follows US sport would have heard of the Dallas Cowboys, americas team.

Now like them or hate them they are the best when it comes to brand awareness, marketing, fan experience and overall business acumen. The owner Jerry Jones has a business worth $150m 20 years ago to now being the most valuable sporting organisation in the world valued at a massive $5b!!!

I see that there can be many similarities with the cowboys in that we can become Australia team. League may not be the biggest sport across the country however by doing what the cowboys have done we will be known as the best sporting franchise in Australia

I think we have begun this journey and I personally can't wait for us to knock off the likes of Melbourne Storm, Collingwood Magpies and all others out there.

Do the esteemed members of this site agree that we are headed to being the biggest and the best or what do we need to do to make this happen?

  • First of all the Dallas Cowboys are no longer Americas team. Americas team is the New England Patriots. Thats just the way it is because of Tom Terrific and Robert Kraft. The cowboys and patriots are both owned by multi millionaires. And thats the reason we re not the same. We dont have an Uncle Nick to land Sonny Bill when ever we want. We dont even do third parties. What we are though is the Northern Territories team. Not a bad start. In the end its all about money and winning. And so far we re a little way off both.

    • There is no way Patriots are America’s team. EVERYONE outside Boston hates them. Patriots are NFL version of Melbourne & Brady is Cam Smith.

    • Yer you miss the point nick, not now but we are bit behind the times with them ( USA) but the gap is closing

  • I think we already are part way there with many fans scattered across the country. I don't know how we stack up against other clubs, but we do seem to get a healthy following at most away games. Certainly something to build on and work towards, but primarily we represent the central areas of Sydney, which has massive growth potential.

  • I believe the Dallas Cowboys becoming ‘America’s team’ originated with a certain film called Debbie Does Dallas in the early 80’s. The film had a cult following which developed into the Cowboys becoming every Man’s ‘team’.

To replicate the same in Australia, a somewhat similar movie possibility entitled ‘Shaza Does Parra’ may produce the same results  ?

    • As long as it ain't "Raelene Does Parra" I'll be happy...

  • Applying an American concept to Australian sport will not only not work, but no one will give a dam. We are Australian, not Yankees!! Besides, the NRL has only been heard of in NSW and QLD.

    • The sooner australia adopts the US sporting approach the better it will become.

The yanks may have a lot of issues but they do sport better than everyone....

      • Hey webby I’m with you 100 percent there. We are behind the 8 ball with everything in the states

  • The Dallas Cowboys are no more Americas team than Souths are the pride of the league, any team can call themselves what they want, it doesn't make it true.
