Last night BA in his post match presser stated that it wasn't his job to motivate the players. I found that very interesting and it got me wondering. Is it the coaches job to motivate players, if not then whose job is it. Perhaps it's a partnership of both. I find it strange considering Football and being able to turn up and do the 1%ers is a mental thing surely motivation must be a huge factor. Perhaps this is why we don't turn up so many times, the Jeckle and Hyde Eels that we have been witnessing this year. I'm beginning to think BA may be missing a huge part of what makes a football team click and in turn not putting process's, leaders, trainers in place to address motivation. Team motivation rests with the boss in a team environment at work so why not a football team.
This isn't BA bashing, but I for one was confused by that statement, and at times it appears we play with no motivation, What are others thoughts on it.

I think certain players can turn up aka Brown, price, mau etc. Some others need to be nurtured or mentored. Comes more under player management . To play at that level you need to be motivated to some point.
He may be right & it may not be his job to motivate them, BUT it’s his job to see who’s motivated & who’s not & therefore replace the ones who aren’t by recruiting players who are motivated. So which ever way you look at it he’s actually wrong in what he is saying if not directly wrong
That's true I think what he is trying to say is that it's not his job to motivate them every week and if he has to than they are not professional footballers.
Darren, that is exactly what he is saying, and I have been pointing out. The players that have issues with their own motivation to play for the team, club and themselves are in Wenty, those that are showing they can be and are motivated, also want to win are in the top squad.

I think the point he was making was that they are supposed to be professionals doing their job. Well paid job at that! Not school kids who need a pep talk to get motivated.
His job is to ensure the fitness, skills and tactics of the team are of a professional level. But the players must put it and earn their money

As per usual many are taking it out of context in what was said, he said its not his job to motivate them EVERY WEEK. in those last two words he is stating a factual truth nothing more and nothing less.
Players as such should be motivated by their own performances and how that affects those he is playing with. The coach cand direct and pick up the pieces with players who are down a bit, but if the players as a whole cannot motivate each other then they are the problem.
Most acknowledge that players and it can be seen on the field when they score and go on a winning spree are huge in their reactions to the scorer, that's the motivation they should be doing for each other. We see them consoling a player who makes a mistake, and that too is to help them and motivate the player to get it out of his mind for the rest of the game. Motivating each other to lift out and away from what they just erred in.
Motivation and desire to win is the players responsibility, if the want to win they should be doing all they can to achieve it, otherwise they are personally losers. Therein is what the coach has been saying for some weeks now, in their soft work, not turning up, only a part time team, rather than a full time team. Motivation is meant to correct the individuals and teams errors and direct them to the direction they should be heading. Like the old traffic cops who directed traffic, a NavMan on a cars console showing the way to get to where you are heading..
Most players are adults and old enough to realise where they are failing or lifting, its up to them to work that aspect out and where they want to be. Coach can help but not do the work for them.
Colin what happened to the old pep talk. When a player does not feel motivated, it should be up to the coach to find out the reason/. Some are very young and need a father figure to give them advice. The coach is wrong in my opinion as motivation should be part of player management
Keith, a pep talk is motivation without doubt. thing is often with the young people they often resent having the pep talks as they see it as a personal insult. If you look over our squad there are a lot of players around 14 of them that are 25 and very much under that, they are playing on youthful energy some go for long stints others not so long, some are back in the lower grade and to me moreso for them to catch their breath as it were. Some likely came into grade too early for too long and are all but burnt out and going backwards.
Tepai Moeroa classic example turns 24 in October this year, and been in NRL squad for 5-6 years? he did not like it when the team was called soft, and said so out in the media, sadly he could not handle the truth of that statement which was not aimed directly at him but the team in general. I would also suggest the coach and anyone assigned to some form of motivational specialised position in the club, if they had one would have spoken directly to him regarding it. I believe the coach would give the players a team talk and discussion/review of the previous game in a de-brief way and speak personally to the players that were felt to be needed to be given a peop talk or a bit above that. At 23 and senior player in the club more is needed from him, also I would say expected as well.
