A much, much better performance this week from Bevan French at fullback, 176 m running, 2 line-breaks, 15 runs, 1 try assist and 4 kicks. granted 70 of those metres came from the try but still decent effort in a grade he should dominate in.
Only negative is 4 errors, which is not great for a fullback, but it sounds like he was doing a lot on that field which is what was lacking in FG
Could this be a turn for French? who knows, until he builds up a bit more, maybe not but at least he is showing dominance in ISP compared being at the level in general, he's better than that level

Thanks for the post LB, the match reviews mentioned him with try score and setting up another one also. I have the view that he is lacking a bit of confidence brought about mainly as a result of his injury, as he is likely favouring it. He has not been showing his abilities to score try's this year with his high leaps and the like to when he was wowing everyone last year..
A full off season with the medical staff working with him, and he gets back his confidence, then we can see what can do, a bit of extra muscle would count well for him also.
BEM. How good was French last season and when he first was picked? A player of his quality does not lose those qualities especially when they are wanting to cement a certain spot in the top side. When he was given that chance this year he blew it, and even blew the wing spot as well, yet he played excellent football previously.
Up until March this year he has played 46 NRL games for 34tries, not a bad average at all. He has been poor in a poor eels team this year but he's not been Robinson Crusoe in that team either. As I said above, I believe he has not fully recovered from his injuries, both the shoulder and knee.
Last year also we were playing behind a pack that was doing a lot more than the pack this year especially in the first half of the season.
The team that i pick for this weekend for the battle of the wooden spoon is
1: C Norman
2; J Hayne
3: M Jennings
4: C Gutherson ( C )
5: G Jennings
6: J Salmon
7: M Moses
8: S Vave
9: R Mahoney
10: T Mannah
11: M Nuikore
12: T Moeroa
13: N Brown
14: D Alvaro
15: O Kaufusi
16: K Evans
17: P Terepo
18: B Takairangi
19: D Gower
20: R Stone
21: G Leleisiuao
I named 4 big forwards on the bench.. I thought thats what was lacking against the storm last week
Thing is that Alvaro and Mannah were both unavailable for the Storm game, hopefully they will be ok this week for the North QLD trip.
KG - I understand your selection of 4 big forwards on the bench but question the lack of a utility type player like Taka.
Moeroa could could go into the centres if someone in the backline gets hurt but............?
Nuikore also plays wide (almost in the centres) but would not have the experience imo to cover there.
Your line up is about as good as we could field atm.
Just my 2 cents worth.
If, as I suspect both Mannah and Alvaro are fit for this game likewise Evans, Kaufusi will not be able to play off the bench as he and Stone were only able to play owing to injuries to those three.
BUMMER!
Thought the kid did awrite last game.
Agree Coryn, I think he has done ok with his shifting of positions, a good player and versatile, and adds some size to the backs.
He'll languish in ISP until the season ends and then be gonesky.
