Isaac De Gois’ concussion battle could open the door for Nathan Peats at Eels

The uncertainty around Isaac De Gois’ playing future due to concussion could open the door for former Eel Nathan Peats to return to Parramatta.

De Gois hasn’t played since suffering a concussion against the Gold Coast during a pre-season game in Darwin.

The veteran hooker has experienced headaches, prompting the Eels to rest him until he fully recovers.

Kaysa Pritchard is currently playing hooker in De Gois’ absence, but it’s understood the club would be keen to lure an established No.9.

Peats, who was forced out of the Eels last season due to the salary cap, could be a target to rejoin Parramatta.

The Eels are yet to speak with Peats, but this may chance depending on the outcome of De Gois’ concussion battle.

The Portuguese international remains hopeful of returning to the NRL, however he still requires a clearance to do so.

Peats, meanwhile, is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.

The hooker’s manager Sam Ayoub said they would not enter negotiations with any clubs until he returned from injury.

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry recently said he would like to retain Peats to form a lethal spine combination with Jarryd Hayne, Ash Taylor and Kane Elgey.

“It would be good (to keep them together),” Henry said. “That’s the aim to get that done. It would be good to keep the fullback, halves and hooker together but time will tell.”

  Watching him today he does have the body size to make an impact in defense.
  
  He needs to go low because going high means they just swat him off.
  
  We are really missing IDG. He line speed and his leg tackles are really missed.
