Is Tom Humble really that good?

Yeah, I saw the video, but then again, he is playing against feeder clubs, and the definition for feeder clubs is players who got kicked out of the NRL because of form drop or the fact that their too old to play the Toyota Cup and not good enough to make First Grade, so maybe the defence is much more softer and easier to break through. And what about defence? will he get totally steamrolled and become targeted in defence? Then again, I could just be totally wrong. What do you think?

  • From what I have been told from good sources in QLD is that he is a special player. Has speed, good hands and great kicking game. A big pre-season and some ANDERSON polish for 6 months and you will find that he is up to the class rise. I always like players with speed and an obvious ability to sniff out tries. Defence is something that is developed into them and a structure like Parramatta will allow him to improve and hold his own. Got a feeling about this one.
  • i say give him a crack at 14 and see how he goes
  • Daniel Anderson seemed to think so. He signed him when we already had 2 young gun Halves coming through. From watching a few of his games, i'd go out on a limb and say he is more naturally talented than Morts and even KK (not saying this necessarilly means he is a better player).

Humble will bring pure speed to the team and he can turn on a 10c piece. He also has a bit of ball playing ability and hit's holes superbly. He also has that Billy Slater ability of just knowing where to be in the right situations.

I think he has two main challenges to be succesful in first grade,

1- He is only slight, will pump the iron in the off season realistically though needs to increase his frame probably about 8kgs or so. Morts should be his Gym partner.

2- Secondly I think Ando needs to make sure that Humble has the confidence of playing his natural game. Humble is sort of like Hayne ie that he plays a few positions and does so effectively. If he is put onto the field just to play one role then I think Humble's talent would go to waste.

I know it would be hard to have Hayne and Humble both as roving type players on the field at the same time, but if Ando could get it too work just thinking about it is salivating.. Then you add KK and Morts scheming around the ruck and Mateo running around with Inu and Tahu off of him... *drooling*

    Is it 2010 yet ? :P
  • QLD Cup is the second best comp in the Country behind NRL, and he smashed it. Certainly a good prospect.
  • He's better than Albert Kelly! That's for sure! He's not too big and I don't think his defence will be good enough unless he gets lots of training during the offseason. However I regard him as our X factor for next year.
  • Can you add a link to the video?
  • This kid was offered starting fullback spot for the cowboys nxt year because Matty Bowan is out for 18 months (needs surgery on something) but he decided to sign with parra instead knowing he prob wont even be in the top 25 squad.
    • The kid is very, very good. Someone described him as being a ' slater ' type of player. He has speed, anticipation and is a hole runner. HE will be in the 17 somewhere. The unknown factor which will assist us next year as MORTS enters the 2nd year syndrome and our style of game is worked out by the teams in 2010. Cant wait to see him go. Huge wraps
      • we have plenty of guys all pushing for the 14 nxt year. there will be
        luke burt
        anthony mitchell
        kris keating
jeff robson (depends who gets 7)
        tom humble
