Is The King Actually a Centre.

King Gutho, is our most inspirational player on the paddock, his work rates are off the chart, his captaincy is superb, he is a leader in the true sense of the word, not to mention continually one of our best players.

I've been watching our team develop like many others here and i keep thinking " God we are close, we are close to really having a premiership team" but in my heart and my head I can see,  there are still those small deficincies that hold us back, those  positions on the field where we are close but not the best, not the best in that position or not the best for the team.

Our Forward pack is there, as a unit and backups we have the pack to win a premiership.

What we are missing among others is that x factor, that brilliant player, that 09 Hayne, that Blue come Maroon Inglis, the Tiger come chook Tedesco, Mr Hamstring Tommy T, the little smurf Billy Slater, the man with no voice from  Brisbane Locky, geez even Papa from Melbourne or young Walsh are superstars on the rise.

I watch our King in amazement at his feats on the field, his never say die attitude, his guts and determination, his duracell ironman mentality, never ever gives up attitude. So this is a hard thing to post about, what i also see is Guthos wrong options in attack, his cut out passes when not needed, his quick hand tap ons that go forward, his lack of outright pace when making a break. Just the little things that make someone the best, in their position.

Could you imagine our Eels team right now with Gutho at centre in place of Waqa and having one of the premier x factor fullbacks in our team, a bloke that creates and or scores two or three or more tries a game. The x factor fullbacks do, and looking through the premiership teams over the years, just about every team to win the comp has had an x factor fullback. Im begining to think that the fullback position has become more crucial then any other in the team, in regards to winning a premiership.

Of course this is hypothetical and will never happen, but if it could, if it did, who would you go after next year to perhaps give us an all rounded team capable of winning the comp. Which x factor player would you buy and bring to our club.

  • We had for year's relied on the 1 jersey to win a game.  Number 7, than 6 and 1 in that order are to blame.  Gutherston gets smashed out the back. Time for Arthur to tell the halves how it is. Perfect d is out the question.  Got to win by points obviously.

  • Jesuz, he ain't that bloody good .

Gutho is what Id consider a player who wasn't born with a great deal of natural ability but has worked his arse off to get where he is .  I have no doubt he could learn to play goalkeeper for the Wanderers if he set his mind to it . But he'll never be that superstar on your Weetbix box .

as for a captain , we need a better option so Gutho can just focus on his game . I think he'd be of more value to us without the captaincy to worry about .  You just can't expect the boys to fully respect a bloke with a man bun .  What's next , a coach with a perm ?

    • You are on fire at the moment Wiz!

      • :) ,  always good fun on here after a loss 😂

      • He is hey, I laughed for a few minutes the other day on his shooting sperm comment in another blog. Can’t remember exactly what he said cause I was laughing so much.

  • Gutho is what he is. I am more than happy with him being our fullback. He is improving in the aspects that you identified as his weaknesses. So long as his price reflects his lack of X- factor and game management ability I hope he stays. Would not want him on any team anywhere but fullback.

  • So we have given up on Dylan to centre, now he have gutho to centre.

Nek minnut it will be Reed to Centre...

    We are a fickle mob

    • The Gutho to centre is not a new suggestion. Keep up, for mine 6 or 4,

  • I've been thinking for a while, if we had a strike fullback with pace, we could possess more threat. Tedesco, Turbo, Papenhyzen, Walsh, Ponga, these kinda guys, if we had one at the back, we would certainly be a different team..
