Is Moses & Cleary Correct Selection

Now that selections have been made by Super Coach Daley, has the selection of Mitchell Moses & Cleary in the halves the correct one?

In my personal opinion it's the wrong choice. Moses in game 2 was again restricted on top of injury concerns Moses didn't seem his usual enthusiastic, threatening player. Moses isn't suited at number 6 and is better in his number 7 position.

Moses has better suucess in Origin games when he's at 7 and Luia was at 6 and with the selections that have been made for Origin 3 I just can't see the NSW blues having any success. At club level Mitchell Moses hasn't been his previous enthusiastic threatening level all year. Not sure if this is injury related or due to the changes in coach and coaching style, different players coming into the team, family reasons or a combination of all.

The Eels have been extremely disappointing this year so far and how it's going to improved is anyone's guess.

  • No, I think it's clear Moses is horrendously out of form and carrying an injury. His kicking is good, but if Cleary is doing most of the kicking what's the point of having Moses out there. NSW need more of a running threat that Moses can currently offer, and that's the honest truth. He's not asking enough questions in the defence and I still think it's hard having both him and Cleary in the team.

  • They just seem like oil and water when they play together.

    • Exactly

  • they will put Queensland to the sword. Two champion halves.

  • I can't see Moses and Cleary having back to back bad origin games, they'll get them in QLD.

    • Cleary has had more silent Origin games than not. Moses, I agree, he could totally turn on God-mode in Origin. One of the few NSW players who plays Origin like he "gets it".

  • Cleary's way of playing doesn't work in Origin. And Moses has been a 7 for so many years that he's not an Origin level 6.

So neither of them are good in their positions in Origin.

If Moses was fully fit I would pick him over Cleary for Origin every day of the week - he is much more threatening in unstructured footy and Cleary has zero ability to play outside of structure. Picking them together makes no sense unless...oh wait...Laurie Daley is coach. Oh yeah, it all makes sense now.

  • NSW won with Cleary and Strange, brought in Moses game 2 instead of Srange and lost. Moses should never been brought back in, Cleary and Strange were a winning combination and should of been left like that, stupidity at it's worst as never change a winning combo unless forced through injuries or suspencion

    • Strange and Cleary were invisible for the opening 60 minutes of Game I. In fact the commentators were saying things would have been going better had Moses been there to share the kicking. The pair of them had a combined total of 85 running metres in 60 minutes (Munster had 79 metres by himself in that time). Both had only engaged the defensive line a combined 5 times while Walker had done it 12 times for Queensland.

Everyone seems to only remember the last 23 minutes when NSW had all the ball, had the extra man and all the running.

      • Exactly
