Is Matterson ready to taste first grade?

Not asking if he is good enough to play week in week out.Just is he ready for a week or two to see how he goes and give him some experience and encouragement. From what I have seen of him I don't think he would be overawedAnd he would not do much worse than the planned halves - one of whom has not played in the halves for quite a while. And we do not have a lot to loseAnyway interested in your opinion especially those who have seen the last few Wenty games

  • If Sandow goes this week I Would throw him in.

  • He was amazing in U20's but honestly not much of an improvement on Luke Kelly in the Wenty matches so I don't think he'll be good enough to lead us to a win but he can definitely play a role.

  • doubt BA will blood him this season unless injuries force it, and next year with foran norman and gordon i dont think we will be seeing french or matterson any time soon.

  • YES
    • X2.
How do you know if any player is ready unless they are given a shot?
Confidence is an incredible thing. Give him a go and he fails, he could be tarnished for some time although be able to say he has NRL experience.
Give him a shot and he goes well, his confidence may make him play out of his skin...like Hayne did.
I saw the Penwiff trial and although given limited game time, I thought he handled himself very well...and we won!
  • I think it will give him a big boost

And if he is shown up I don't think it will hurt him - just make him stronger

He seems to be a solid player. He may not have the skills yet but how far behind Seffa and Kelly can he be.

  • isn't he top 25? So why isn't he playing? I'm confused (as usual). Maybe BA is gonna play him but is keeping the pressure off. Someone should watch the airport...

    • Im all for giving him ago.If he is in our top 25 it is ridiculous not to use him considering our salary cap problems.Use them or lose them, if we dont use him another club will.

  • What I've seen, probably not. Not that it will never happen, but it's been a year of adjusting. I believe that he is just starting to find his feet for Wenty so it might even be detrimental to push him up further. I actually believe he may have improved with Henry in the halves with him, but again the comments might best come from regular Wenty spectators like Ham and Forty.
  • Matterson is a problem as far as placement. He is to big and cumbersome to play halves. He is also a mediocre defender, so that excludes him from the forwards. Bit of a problem for BA.
