How many times have we heard 'the game' should be about ‘the game’ and not have any societal POV's? I certainly have, I get told all the time 😁
Well today, in these terrible times, hopefully the doubters are realising that the game is much bigger than they think.
Sport does not exist external to society.
And society needs sport. We can all agree with that.
Society is inclusive of everyone not just a small group. The NRL bridges all races, religions, sexes and genders and more than ever they should all be welcome. Whether certain people like it or not.
This isn’t me being a ‘lefty’. It’s the truth.
I’m not into politics. Hate it.
But I find it funny that those commentators and broadcasters (and some fans) who always say don’t bring politics into the game are playing the most politically fuelled game yet. The Ch9, Foxsports, NewLimited, Murdoch circus shows how incredibly political they all are.
I’ve been called many things on this site. Have even been labelled the dumbest person ever to post. I kinda take pride in that. At least I challenge and provoke people and not just agree with those who try run this site. All in good fun and good banter of course.

Mate, I'm purely stating how big the game is for everyone. Nothing negaitive or depressing about that.
I tell you what is depressing? Asking someone to remove themelves from society. Really Frankie?
Oh, I'm sorry. You mean send people away like me who think differently... Like they did in your favourite book Mein Kampf?
Explain how my post is negative. Because it doesn't align to your beliefs?
Your comments try so hard to be funny. And credit where credits due - sometimes they are. I like a good cannoli myself so their a worst ways to go (know the best cannoli place if you're interested). But if you spent more time trying to structure an argument and being less dismissive with throw away flippant comments then I might understand you more.
Again, how are my comments negative?
Nothing scattered about my brain mate. More concerned about how close minded others are.
Thanks Slugg. I don't intentionally go against the grain. But yes, how boring would this site be if we all thought the same. Anyone can copy and paste articles with no real opinions or just nod and follow others.
To answer your question, is it more than a game ?
The answer is different to different people.
To passionate club fans like ourselves it's clearly more than a game, its part of our identity.
To the casual fan though it isn't, it's just a game.
To the players clearly it is more than a game, it's their profession & the livlihood.
To the broadcasters, it probably isn't, to them it is just product to draw advertisers.
Thanks Brett. First one here to share their opinion.
The reason why the deputy premier of NSW is backing the return of the game is because as he said "rugby league is the heart of everything we do in NSW". It will bring an uplift economically, socially and help from a well being perspective. Our game is bigger than most think.
I agree, it's part of the fabric of our society.
EAM while i see the view from league fans and particulrarly the Dep Premier, i am only concerned for the safety for all concerned and this means the players and staff etc. The game provides income for many particularly the background people who sell food / clothing / merchandise etc. to local junior leagues and suppliers, even the local coffee van who goes to weekend sport.
TBH i have not missed the NRL much in terms of the drama / usual rubbish with politics and some of the media but I have missed not seeing my team play and also i was not one who really enjoyed seeing the grounds empty - yes it was good to see them play but the atmosphere was like being at a Marilyn or Bros concert in the mid 80's......just without the girls.
I believe lots of the push is financial based due to contracts with TV etc and also the NRL's financial state, and only hope things are done for the health of all concerned.
EAM we mostly bring in our political sides in items and yes the media etc are no different. If Ch 9 or Fox pay for the rights they can have their agendas etc. all over and that i guess is how it works.
I don't mind differing views as long as its respectful about the subject.
Thanks Mitchy, I'm always respectful about the subject. And even though others constantly try rubbish me and my views I try remain respectful to them too. I remind myself that the one thing we have in common is our support and passion for the same team.
I agree. The safety and health of players and staff should always come first.
And yes, of course the NRL are keen to get started again asap because they are losing money. But the sooner the game starts again the happier the country will be.
