Is Casey McGuire good enough?

Just asking a question is McGuire good enough to be our half ( if we don't sign anybody better ) for next season. Haven't seen anything of him since he left the broncos. Was a handy player then but that was a few years ago. Maybe with Humble at 5/8 could be a good combination. I think Murray needs time and Robbo has had his time. Forget Morts, not good enough at half. Does anybody know how he has been playing and in what position. Thoughts?

  • I know Murray needs time but I have a feeling he will be the one. See how he goes over the off season and trial games.
  • Good question TE, and from what I've seen and heard from others, he is more than capable of playing half.
He is a utility, but during his time at both the Broncos and with Catalans he roamed a fair bit from five-eighth/hooker and is more than capable of playing both positions if he is called upon to play them.

He has actually been playing some decent footy for Catalans, and I think it will transcend into some good form for us too.
  • NO to being our half - backup only
  • He is a good solid player who will at least give some decent ball to Hayne and company. Geez I hope we don't persist with Mortimer in the halves or we will ruin another perfectly good opportunity to make the top four.
  • I have a feeling that Morts will be in for a big year. We know he has talent and yeah had a poor second season, but so did the team as a whole. I think the game structure that SK will bring will suit Morts well, allowing the likes of Hayne to chime into the attack and not having to be the instigator. All the 'old' signings we have picked up bring a lot of experience from some top teams under some great coaching, which our young guys can't help but benefit from. For me this seems like a solid future building process for our guys coming through, and as stated we finally have some mongrel on the field, particularly in the forwards... I think we will see a new outlook across the park once the team has had a chance to gel.
  • agree..... Robson is still our best 7 which is really worrying.
