Hi All,
was quite interested to see a post on Clarkeys NRL Column which reportedly lists the top ten most missed tackles in the NRL. For a team that seems to base itself around a strengthened defence (?), we have two players in the top ten. Reed Mahoney at number 9, and Mitchell Moses at Number 10. We all know Reed makes a hell of a lot of tackles, but it seems he also misses alot. Mitchell Moses appeared to have improved his defence at the start of the season, but now appears to be back up there with the worst offenders. Can this be managed or changed? Does Reed need a little less time on the field to manage fatigue? What can be done about Moses? Many of us claimed Sandow was a speed bump in defence. If we don't change this, we will continue to suffer and these weakness are clearly already being targeted by opposition teams.

I think Reed's misses come mainly from his frame which is still developing and fatigue. I think his stats would improve if he had a 10 min breather either half before and after half time.
I know there has been plenty of talk about him being an 80 minute player, but looking at the number of tackles he is making, I can't see any other reason that fatigue. BA needs to manage Reed better IMO.
To be fair, I have just come across this for Reeds tackle stats.
Being small as Reed is, means someone bigger will run over you more often than a bigger hooker. I think this will change once he beefs up a bit.
And if he wasn’t rested by the coaching god, he would be leading the tackle count. Not too bad for a rookie.
Percentage wise that probably means he’s ok and covering for some other lazy forward
Hmmm, how surprising? Not one Eel in the top 10 for Post Contact Metres.
Alvaro's post contact metres are probably negative. He gets landed on his arse every hit up.
Another question..why didn't we go for Klemmer when he was told to leave the dogs? We had the money for it too.
I have supported Alvaro and he started the season OK. Not sure if he is injured but not seeming to have the impact in attack. Perhaps we tried with some of these players and we don't know, but we need to get someone like a JWH, Vaughan, Nelson Asofa Solomona, Klemmer. That style of forward. Most fans can see it, why can't the Club?
If you've noticed..since the Tigers game, Alvaro slows down or takes a step to the right just before impact which means he has little momentum to smash through the tacklers. You might not get post contact metres but you should at least fall forward for a quick play the ball. He always loses the wrestle too.
