Insult to Jr Paulo

I don't like going back to the past, but this topic still irritates me. Last night, Trent Merris produced one of the most dangerous tackles I've seen in football. Picked Corey Parker up, had him vertical and dropped him on his head. Could have been a disaster for Parker had he not protected himself the way he did.I wake up this morning to read the news that Trent Merrin will get a 4 week suspension with an early guilty plea. FOUR WEEKS. That is a huge insult to Jr Paulo after he copped a whopping 9 weeks ban for his tackle on Matt Ballin in round 1.How can any one take the NRL MRC serious when the are so openly inconsistent. You can't honestly say that, Jr's tackle was worse then Merrins tackle last night! Once again, we have witnessed the incompetence of the NRL. Pathetic. Merrin should have received 10 weeks minimum.I'm outraged. Absolute joke.

Totally agree, there been other tackles that have been worse then Paulo by other player & none have being hit anywhere near as severe as Paulo tackle. Joke!!!

Like the refs, we've learnt to deal with unfair suspensions. So that tackle was only twice as bad as Manu's run? Yeah right

It was in origin and different standards apply .. Shouldn't but do.
Jnr had carry over points and plead not guilty.
Jnr s grading was an absolute disgrace.

If Parker had have broken his neck in that tackle, how many weeks would Merrin have been suspended for? I guarantee you it would have been more then four.
It's sad the the NRL takes injury into this situation. If the player dosent get injured, all of a sudden it's as dangerous.. ?! The NRL actually wait to see if someone breaks there neck before determine the outcome. Fucking joke.

I agree, but geez origin is frustrating. I think the rules that apply at club level should be the same at origin.

It was like qld knew what they could get away with an NSW didn't.

All the same Qld absolutely deserve the title. A totally dominant performance.

  If the nrl come out and admit the Paulo suspension was to harsh then all of this will stop. Until then people will hold the nrl to thier own standards and so they should.

If Parker was seriously injured, what would Cam Smith have thought if Gallen badgered the ref for 10 mins about it all being Parker's fault? For all Smith's feigned insult at the McKinnon complaint, in the end self-servingnis self-serving.

As for Jr Paulo, maybe the best way of putting things is that Merrin might deserve 4 weeks. So rather than thinking Merrin should get 9 weeks, we just say something went awry with 9 weeks.

It seems like penalties get adjusted as the year goes on. Offenses that get over penalized come back to the fold and those that get under penalized get upgraded. But that leaves the impression of the match review committee waffling in the breeze. They will probably say they penalize on an each case on its merits basis, but if the fine lines they use to discern differences are opaque, that either means we lesser mortals cannot see the consistent underlying principles or that the underlying principles are inconsistently understood by the committee. Given footballers are not the brightest bunch, I lean toward the latter view.
