There has been an announcement today from Davod Smit (CEO) the NRL will be investigating the possibility the Mighty Parrmatta played with an 18th man against the Sydney Dragons. An adjunct to the investigation will be whom is really paying for the player and the impact to the salary cap of the last placed team from 2013.
(another rumor was the eels recruited astutely and expensively to ensure they won back to back titles thus emulating the sides of the late 40's early 50's. A statement was issued the back to back titles were in memory to all the great teams of the eels of yesteryear whom have the honor of claiming the mighty spoon.....i digress )
The investigation will be behind closed doors and once thoroughly investigated information will be provided to the public along with the penalties applied, what this reporter has been able to extract from a well known leak in the parramatta leagues club walls is:
1. The player ran a wonderful decoy which allowed Corey Norman to run through the gaping hole which opened. Whilst there was concern about obstruction the video referee ruled the player only obstructed himself
2. The player worked in tandem and assisted Hoppa with his 1-on-1 strips. There was concern the assists may have breached the more than one tackler rule, however the player clearly was thinking ahead by ensuring he wore the opposing teams jersey
3. To ensure credibility the player did not miss any tackles. This may be due, to said player, just having a run of the mill training session with his team mates
4. The player, through his sheer will and pressure, generated multiple turnovers which placed the team in fantastic field position. in one instance the amount of pressured forced the ball, from a pass, over the sidelines from the middle of the field
With all the dramas around the boys hanging around the X (should they not have learnt about that place once Haynesy was shot at?), this is another ugly stain the game does not need on its already stained jersey.
