Many people have been quick to blame Morts for last year. In many areas he did not meet our expectations and probably his own. But let's look at some facts before we hang him out to dry.
1. Morts had a great 2009 behind a pack of forwards that rolled over teams and tired them out with their offloads.
2. He was playing 5/8 in 2009.
3. The forwards did not do their job in 2010.
4. The dummy half service and variety was below par in 2010. Far too many passes that did not take the attack forward.
5. He was asked to take kicks in general play in 2010 - and this is not one of his talents.
6. He stood out as a support player in 2009 - there were not the breaks to support in 2010.
7. Most of the team did not play well and the confidence of those players in crucial positions took a battering.
8. A year of tough learning won't hurt him.
I do not expect Kearney to play Morts as a half and nor should he. The signing of an experienced half to play alongside Morts will be the making of him.

I believe that Morts will be better for having to go through last year's horrors.
