Its something me and my mates have been saying may happen for a little while. We had massive discussions about the topic basically stating that , its would cost someone's right testicle to sign JT.
However, with the latest reports stating we are not negotiating mateo, inu, grothe and kk contracts... for the time being( ive already posted that if warriors offer mateo that 400 a season that he will definitely will go and so to probably eric grothe or take a massive pay cut..), and with cayless probably finishing up this season...
does make you think that it actually isnt such an un acheivable task.
Basiclly its a situation of,
Mateo - 230 Thurston 6-700
Inu - 220 resign or sign some back up players. remember we got some
Grothe - 180 talent waiting 2 come up and there and jono and shac
Cayless - 250
Keating - 200
out in
these are obviously not the 100% perfect salary negotiations but im just giving you an idea of the situation if it were to maybe unfold.
Now whether that is warranted is another question. what do u think?
And i am not saying that i do or don't want JT at the club but i have been an advocate in saying and some will know this from other posts, that parra have a frustrating habit of spreading the money to the wrong parts of the field, and not putting the cash on the players who should be the highest payed, out 679 and 1 we got the 1 right.
Our 679 always seem to be mediocre or potentials but.. we do the opposite to melbourne, they get their team spine solid as a rock and then build outwards from that.
Im not saying our halves or hookers arent good, but lets face it , we haven't won anything since sterling left, made two gf's since and both times the opposing no.7 has dominated over us the whole game ( Cronk and Joey).
Maybe it is time to get the best halfback in the blue and gold number 7 jersey again instead of always trying our luck for up and comers and promising talents. coz they just arent paying off. parra have tripled what they would have to pay for JT in previous number 7's that have got us nowhere. We will also loose the " hes the next sterlo" stigma that gets attached to every young halve we bring up or buy. Because JT has already established his reputation. He is the worlds best half back and the Australian Half back. The pressure to be the next sterlo then also disappears.
Now i actually want us to play kk and mortimer and i think that combo has huge POTENTIAL.
It is however interesting thought as to what parra would be capable if we started building our squad as a team that melbourne do and actually have our best players in the needed positions. HAYNE, MORTIMER, THURSTON .. not bad. This is obviously speculation so im looking for thoughts to if it would be warranted to lose the players for jt or if it would work at all.

I would like to retain keating and grothe though on reduced contract (approx $120k each)
We need to fit 25 players under our cap.
We currently have little to no room to move, so its all good and well to say "let go of Mateo, Inu, Grothe, KK and Cayless" but he will take up ALL their salarys and we still need 4 more players!!
