Icing the big moments

Alot of talk about Moses and his worth.

The big criticism of Mitch has been his ability to be the match winner

I think for us as a team and Mitch in general is we can win the game with big moments but when it comes to the close moments we and Mitch can't do it.

Some examples from recent history of Mitch stepping up

Vs Storm last year missed field goal in regular time missed field goal that luckily Stone got to the bounce and scored.

Vs Tigers last year missed a field goal with minutes remaining tigers win on the bell

Vs Manly sideline kick to win the Game big moment for Mitch

Preliminary final missed a penalty kick to tie it up luckily things worked out after.

This year Vs Melbourne not all Mitch's fault but poor execution to hit set up and take the field goal.

I'm all for investing in Mitch long term i don't see any better options out there but until he/we start to ice those moments the questions will remain and the drought will continue.

  • In round 1, I blame him for not icing the game. However, this week I don't blame him. Everytime he was bringing up back in the game, someone in our team would fuck us over. It's a team games. He can't ice the game this week if other players keep disappointing in key moments

  • I thought he was good this week as opposed to last week. The turning point was when gutho went off. Cronulla player never went to the bin and we never got a penalty. Cronulla scored twice soon after. Gutho pass for intercept .

    • The intercept was the game changer.

This post was more about what I'm seeing as a on going issue for Mitch/the team

      • Exactly mitch couldn't do anymore to ice it. 1 st game was a different story.

  • Icing the game usually comes to the spine players. Mitch for whatever reason didnt get the ball when he needed to in game 1 and rest is history.  Friday nights game was a combination of too many small things adding up to the end result.  GUTHO going off with HIA changed the whole game.  Mentally we did not cope with that and when adversity hits  it usually strikes the players than are prone to not handling it in the past, ie Blake, Simonson, Mitch.   But they are also the blokes the ball needs to get to because they can get the biscuits but just not as often as most of us Fans hoped for. Lane is probably the biggest OUT for our team. His presence on that edge is now obvious and Dylan is half teh player he was without him next to him.

    • Thats why someone like Adam Reynolds has so much value to a team

    • I'd agree. He has amazing skill, but average game management. In the Sharkies game he does one spiral bomb and gets a result. Didn't do another one all game. Didn't do one before that one. We kept running it on the last and running into touch. Why he didn't bomb all night is beyond me.

A mate of mine took an old shield for an aged effect, painted this and gifted it to me today. A great memory from a great time in Eels history. Thought I would share.
