I think Tahu might play five eighth next year

Hi all,Just joined and for my first blog I thought I would add my two cents to the discussion regarding where we are going to position all our backs next year (provided they all remain fit).I had a suspicion Tahu would be gunning to play five eighth next year and I think that was confirmed in todays sun herald. Tahu commented how he had developed his kicking and passing skills in union and had played a lot of first receiver. He was hoping to bring that back to league.I think Tahu will want to play at five eighth and this move might be accommodated by Anderson so we can keep our GRand Final 1 to 5 who are all in career best form really. I think that this will mean Mortimer to halfback (his preferred position) and robson back up half playing in the reggies. A few people on this blog like Kris Keating and I think he will be in the top squad, but as an interchange hooker/utility.Some people will say that both Tahu and Mortimer lack the proven kicking and passing game to be our top flight halves but with jarryd hayne ,luke burt and feliti mateo offering back up in those areas I don't really see it as a problem. Actually I can see hayne continuing to do most of our kicking in general play as, unfortunately mortimer seems to have a bit of a pop - gun kick, (although he is an excellent runner of the footy).thoughts?

  • It's not good to have Hayne doing most of the kicking. It puts unneeded pressure on him as seen in the Grand Final when every time he kicked, he was just targeting Turner's wing in the first half. We need a halfback and 5/8 that compliment each other and each can kick well. I don't really mind Tahu as a 5/8 but he needs to develop his kicking game. However Tahu will be playing his best footy as a centre.
  • I think Mortimer's short kicking game is quite good, it's his long distance kicks that need help and he was getting better and better each game. Robson's got the distance but not the aim. Mortimer will get better in this area under Johns. I actually thinking with Tahu's running power 5/8 could work quite well for him.
    • dude dont hit the bong so hard
  • It will end up just the like the Jarryd Hayne 5/8 experiment.
    • Humble will be 5/8, Mortimer Half and tahu and Reddy centres. Tahu is a hole runner. Humble will kill em. Him and Morts will be a sensational pairing. Cant wait. Need tahu to play at least 20+ games next season for mine.
      • Humble starting 5/8??? I doubt it!!!!

Gee some fans are hard on the existing halves combination especially Robson for some reason, it seems now all fans want to do now is mould their preferred lineup around Keating/ Mortimer or Mortimer/Humble at the expense of Robo

Why fix something that aint broken I can bet DA will stick with Robson and Mortimer as his starting halves combination,

The last time I looked the halves pairing of Robo and Morts along with a rejuvenated team led by Hayne Moimoi and Hindmarsh took the club to this years G/F....

Humble aint proved shit and like Keating will have to play his way back into the team
        • Freaking Robson just isn't that good. If he didn't have that 'Unsung hero' tag Kris Keating would've been back immediately! Also, Everyone's going for Keating cause he was awesome in the Toyota cup and did brilliant in halfback for us before injury. That's why we prefer Keating.
  • I hope not. We can't continue to rely on individual brilliance to get us home. We need a player in the halves, who is going to put a man through holes. Neither Mortimer or Robson did that last year, and Humble won't do it either.

    Kris Keating must be seven.
    • Exactly. Kris Keating creates line break assists that no other player in our team can do apart from Hayne and Mateo occasionally. He should be partnered with Mortimer.
    • Agree with this. We lack a kicking/passing 7. We have great short pass runners and more hole runners than any line up but we lack the distribution.

I think Humble could be the next Kenny !!! Massive call.

But we need a genuine half back and Mortimer is more a runner than a distributor
