Hi all.
I love my footy. Been following it since the early 70's, but, the games since the crackdown have not been enjoyable. It is becoming stop start for me due to a regular sin bin or send off, plus there are a lot of set restarts now for ruck infringements, and I just don't find the game entertaining. The players aren't learning at the moment. Hopefully they do in time, and the game will settle down, but from an old bloke's perpective, it is not a pretty game to watch. The old time players would be turning in their grave

Dr Wong, is there a worse descriptive word than fucked, cause I'm searching for it. Piss off the Greek, the South African and Anusley.
Plucked
2 whinging old moles as we speak
You know that time when you talk to an old footballer and he says that he doesn't watch the game anymore and you could never understand that. How a person could play the game at the highest level and now doesn't bother to watch it... could never figure it out.
.
I fear how a Grand Final could be won and lost by the individual interpretation of a referee. In the past, that interpretation would be a dodgy penalty but now there is every chance that a 10 minute sin binning would tip the scales in a premiership race.
We all support a crack down on the deliberate head highs but by refusing to classify the incidental contact as different to the deliberate, V'landys risks completely alienating both the fans and the players.
The game probably deserved someone like V'landys. We have had a litany of bad , soft leaders for years but there has to be some middle ground. V'landys needs to drop this bullish dictatorial garbage and engage others.
I've never played the game at the highest level but friends , we are in very very dangerous territory at the moment.
Yes Fathead, that is the point, “refusing to classify the incidental contact as different to the deliberate”, I do not understand why the NRL do not explain why?
It's because V'landys is such a dominant force that he personally refuses to address it and others are loath to challenge him on it.
You probably saw how he cracked it against Ben Ikin when Ben tried to bring it up calling him indirectly, negative.
That's the problem with having this dictatorial personality, you tend to surround yourself with yes men who are , in essence just a reflection or extension of yourself.
V'Landys may as well go ask a mirror than ask Andrew Abdo for an opinion.
Agree, Fathead, PVL's performance on that NRL 360 segment was embarrassing. What I saw was a guy incapable of having his judgement questioned. His response to Ikin was not just disrespectful, but childish. PVL had a script, a framing of the issue, and he was intent on repeating it ad nauseum, no matter what. He was like a child demanding a toy.
Absolutely. Ikin just presented a different opinion. You can just imagine how PVL is off camera !!
He's on the right track but he just needs to understand that he doesn't have all the answers and sometimes there are others that are better qualified or smarter that may have a valid opinion.
I turned off and started watching Aleague instead
Am I wrong in remembering that it wasn't until the Sydney Rorters had an issue with it (Trent Robboisons blow up ) that only then did we have a crackdown, people in the game have been calling for change of contact to the head for ages! So again we get what the rorters want!!!
