Huge recruitment setback.

Amazing what a few months of bad footy can do. Up until March everyone was singing Brad Arthur's praises. Opposition player's were taking note. He gained the respect of many for leading the team through the salary cap fiasco by keep them motivated despite them having nothing to play for. He followed that up last year with a top 4 finish. He was considered one of the best coaches in the game.AND for first time in many, many years we had the potential to pique the interest of some of the better player's.2018 has undone all that hardwork. With all the talk over the last few hours about 10 spots available who'd want to come play for us? What's the sell to them? What's the appeal? You have a coach with a good team on paper but can't get them firing. In my opinion we have gone back to the stone ages again when it comes to recruitment. BA has lost his gloss unfortunately. What would your sell be to potential talent?

  • The only way anyone has come here for years. Pay overs or recruit players that aren't in high demand elsewhere. It's a viscious cycle that we would've been out of with some success this year. Unfortunately, we're right back to square one on this one.
  • The tigers were able to sign players this year . The Dragons have also gone ok , Newcastle , same for Cronulla when they were a mess . It’s all about who’s available and the options on hand . Some years it’s a buyers market and some years it’s a sellers and considering the cap mess that some clubs are in and other clubs being pretty well stocked , I’d say the other than Cronulla who never seem to run out of money or luck when it comes to snapping up every disgruntled or disgaurded player we shouldn’t have too much competition from the usual suspects this year ( cantubury , Roosters , Penrith etc ) . I can see a whole new look team on the horizon .  Hopefully we can get some decent coaching resources as well .

  • Brad Arthur must be axed there's absolutely no doubt about it. He is a failure in understanding the requirements into the type of players needed to become a premiership winning force.
You only have to look at our current non competitive forward pack to realize ba has nfi.

I keep on repeating myself on this - but the "UNICORNS" have not answered it - why is it that Arthur has only purchased one decent forward in 5 years.?

It's no secret you have to pay overs to get the Vaughns, Ese Eses, Packers, Harris, Passi, Griffin, Crightons ect.

Brad bought a team full of moneyball average bums, and spread the cap over a multitude of rubbish old bums who would give you one or two average years at best. He failed to look long build the club and we're now paying the price.

Now with 10 spots to fill,  you can bet ba will begin a panic buying spree of bums, to further destroy the club

    • Chief I’m pretty new here but in my short time all I’ve seen is you sticking up for Brad . Don’t you think it’s time you got real and admitted Brads struggling .

    • It is true KK - he is the Chief Unicorn.
  • We have a good team on paper?

I'd say that if we were to put our team list on the table and ask rival coaches who they'd like to take, there would be quite a few players without a home, most in fact.

I don't get this notion that Brad Arthur has suddenly forgotten how to coach in one off season. Also, the players have forgotten how to play.

I think that it's pretty obvious that there are a few internal issues regarding certain popular players being 'let go' and possibly other issues too. I also think that Arthur is sticking strong to his decisions and we will see in the longer term that he made the right choices.

  • So there is money to spend where is the recruitment coming from? I don't think any elite player would come to Eels with the track record. Just stating a fact.
  • Hipgrave from the titans is close to signing im told but still a it of work to do.
  • Do what Newcastle did snare one and the rest will follow
  • A lot of players out there want to play with Hayne.
