How will they use Fuifui?

Now that it's been confirmed that Fuifui is going to start from the bench, the question is what kind of role he is going to be used in?

As you might have seen from my game comments, Fuifui played very much like Dave Taylor was used for the Broncos in the match against the Panthers.

Given that Taylor absolutely made mince meat of Soward, I reckon we can expect Fuifui to be used in exactly the same way. If the Eels can get Fui one-on-one with Sowards its going to be points every time.

I guess the question surrounding that is how much will we lose in go-forward with that strategy? So much last year, our form throughout a match basically went up and down depending on whether Fui was on the field.

So what we may gain in attacking ability, we may lose in terms of making tough metres.

If only we had two Fuis :-)

  • I Reckon Moi moi should keep up the same style he played last year up the middle. Id like to see shane shackleton running hard out wide.
  • We really need Poore to step up to Fui's level in attack. Hopefully they try to outdo eachother with strong runs and really smash teams apart.
  • I actually think Fui will run on the starting team with Caylo from the bench

DA hasnt named it that way to avoid media attention all week and stupid headlines like "Cayless sacked!"

Fui will play his traditional middle of the ruck game for his first spell, come off after about 20mins, have a 15min breather, then back on with 5-10 to go in the half as an edge/wide runner against their tiring defensive line.

Well thats what i'd do anyway!!
  • I also think that there is an element of foxing involved with the side that has been named. I won't be surprised if Fui runs on.

I wonder though, whether Cayless and Mannah will sub each other and Fui and Poore will sub each other.
  • we do have to fui's, pele has been named in the wenty team, he will given time make his 1st grade debut this year, you mark my words. I think bringing fui off the bench is a good ploy for the first game of the year. I would expect the forward pack to move around depending o nthe team we play that week.
  • Must remember its a 17 man game these days, gone are the days of a 13man game with some handy reserves. The bench players now play an integral part of the game plan.

A bench player can win or lose you a game. Look how many stars actually come into a game 20mins in. It gives the coach a chance to assess if he needs to change a plan, look at opposition as to what they are doing.....

So Fui, Mannah, Shackleton and co hold a key to the teams success and failure. .
Think along lines of Basketball, Gridiron etc... Players off the bench are just the same value as a starting player.....
  • Same number of minutes as last year... he will be on the field 15 mins either side of half time and probabyly last 10 minutes at the death

Play the same style as last year.

Mateo, Smith, Hindy, Mk can each play 80 mins, Poore almost 80 and Cayless 60. DA will have total flexibility with his interchanges for sure.
  • I have always thought that Fui smashing it up the middle was a necessity thing.

The bloke is third at the club over 40 metres and is an ex centre (when he used to play rugby) He showed in the GF when things were getting desperate what he is capable of running wider and I am sure that has given Anderson the idea to use him in that role.

Now that we have a few big boppers to help bolster the middle I know how I would use Fui.
