HOW SOFT WE HAVE ALL BECOME!

Each and every day I hear people saying "this lockdown is too hard" and that so many people are struggling with it. Until I stopped and thought about past world events I also whinged about it. I haven't read or studied much about World War 2 and I was interested to read a little about it in the past few days. I understand that people of the wrong religion or skin tone basically went into hiding in basements and other places (in a total lockdown) throughout the war. Obviously, these people didn't have the technology or in-home entertainment that we have today. Incredibly, World War 2 went for a total time of 313 weeks or 6 years and 1 week.

I do understand the difficulties individuals and families are going through at the moment........ But the next time you think to yourself, how hard is this lockdown, or you hear someone complaining, take a minute and think to yourself, HOW WOULD YOU HAVE HANDLED 6 YEARS AND 1 WEEK OF WORLD WAR 2?

  • I've never had so much sex with my wife .

So your Mrs is probably counting down the days to the end of the lockdown. She might have gone as far as to offer $$$ for people to get double vaccinated.

      • She doesn't even know we've had it. She keeps waking up thinking it's my new found cooking hobby that's giving her the sore arse.

        • haha. Great to see ya back wizz and in fine form

        • On the subject of defamation here’s a perfect example. If your wife reads this Wiz you’re in trouble lol.

  • 🙃

  • I am not sure if the Astra Zeneca jab I have had has had some fairly significant after  effects on my mental sensitivities. I'd do agree the people who went through the war had it really tough. Many people going through Covid in poor countries are also doing it tough. Talk of another war I am sure will also create a lot of anxiety for a lot of people. We are headed into many uncertain times.

  • Ok, pre-emptive apology, I love these types of discussions, so I may go on too long.

I understand where you are coming from, however, I think it is a false equivalence to compare WW2 to our current lockdown. Times change and expectations are different in different times and places. The way we live in the West in today’s world, unlimited food, technology, entertainment, this gives us an expectation and reality of life that our Grandfathers and Grandmothers could not even imagine in their youth.

For example my father in-law was saying for his father, having chicken was a super special treat, yet today anyone can go at anytime and get some dirty bird. So we have expectations that WW2 people didn’t even have any reality of. You can’t miss what you don’t know exists.

A guy traveled the world, interviewing people, he said the happiest people he found were people living with nothing in garbage tip areas in the Philippines. They had no expectations of a better life because it wasn’t real to them.

A saying that covers your thoughts. By G.Michael Hopf, Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men.

    • I agree with alot of what you said MB. As a kid when the first black and white TV came on the market a neighbour used to charge kids three pence to watch a half  an hour episode of  a Cow Boy show. Kids were entertained seeing this magic. Today our reality is all about  an unlimited  materialism hunger which gives a short hit to our addiction for more of the same. Are we happier for that?  Enjoyment to our life experience is about creativity of our own potential in the doing. It is not about being passive consumers
