After the total debacle of refereeing standards in the NRL the last few years. I’m very curious to know what others think the referees will have on the outcome of NRL games in 2018. I think the Eels were hard done by last year in many games and in particular the finals game against the Melbourne Storm still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I’m hoping the referees don’t have too much negative influence on results this year and the calls for the most part are at least 50/50. However, I just can’t shake off the feeling that many games will be affected by either poor refereeing standards or blatant and dubious decisions to favour certain teams and players.

Get over it Monto. Refs make mistakes, they aren't going to get it right every time. Every fan could make the case that their club has been given a rough time of it by refs.
Refs are there to make a judgement using the rule book as a framework to make those decisions. It's a judgement, and judgement is flawed, but it's the best we've got.
Well said Brett. It’s human nature not to remember all the times the ref made a mistake in your team’s favour. Referees are people, and they make mistakes. It all comes out in the wash.
Get over what Brett ? It’s just a simple question mate! If you don’t want to answer it without being sarcastic then don’t read the blog my friend! If you think that referees are not biased or don’t make blatant incorrect decisions rather than honest mistakes then I’m afriad Brett your living in a fairy tale land and not in the real world. Perhaps Brett this is a ‘payback’ becasue I’ve said I hate Cricket is it?
That’s a good point Tad and there certainly needs to be something in place to weed out the more ‘blatant corrupted’ referees than the more sincere ones.
The same as the last few years. I dont mind small mistakes here and there but its the obvious howlers that get to me. Those descisions that every person watching the game can see yet the officials are the only ones who see it different. I expect more of the same this year as the NRL usually refuse to acknowledge these obvious mistakes.
Yes, FME perhaps I should have said the past 10 years instead of few years as it’s obviously got worse than better and more blatant than honest.
There’s a huge difference between ‘honest mistakes’ and ‘blatant incorrect decisions’ Poupou! Referees are not ‘infallible’ and if corruption can exist in other sporting codes and amongst referees in other sporting codes then why not Rugby League or are we missing something?
Who are the referees that are blatantly corrupt?
