How does Forans leaving affect the Salary cap?

As Foran left after a few months, are we now under the cap? Does that change the TPA situation for next year now because they dont have to pay Foran??

I assume we wont need to pay him out for the rest of the year and that we can now upgrade Mau and Semi

  • Well it reports are true, then assuming we let him go, we don't have to pay his last three months (August to Oct) of his contract.

If he is on $1-1.2 million, that should save us approx $250-300k this year. A nice upgrade for someone.

But I reckon the NRL will still want to include his TPA's in our cap for next year.
    • Does this affect our cap situation for this year now, By default, does this now put us under and we keep our points?

The NRL cannot penalise us for Guaranteed TPAs for next year or at least Forans portion of that.

I also believe that with Paulo, Peats etc not being at the club next year that we should still have significant space under the cap apart from Hayne.

    • they cant their argument was that players offered money shouldn't be out of pocket because eel cheated it was a punishment more a you offered this money so you will pay it if he has walked out we owe him nothing most of that 500 k next year should be gone with peats foran and watmough gone assuming they were the chunk of it

  • We're already under the cap this year, having let Peats, Paulo, Morgan go. This just means we're even more under the cap for the rest of this year. As for next year, that's 1.2m freed up. Forget TPA's, just view it simply: Foran's 1.2 was fully on the cap, it's now removed. 1.2 to spend!
    • Basically a swap - Hayne Foran

  • Brett, why doesn't the same thing apply to Wats ones though? Or Mossop, and the others?
  • I hope so, but this article (which could be bullshit) is claiming Watmoughs TPA will be included in our cap for 2017:

    http://m.smh.com.au/rugby-league/parramatta-eels/parramatta-eels-wo...

"Fairfax Media understands third-party arrangements with Kieran Foran, Michael Jennings, Semi Radradra, Beau Scott and Watmough will all be included in next year's salary cap, casting huge doubt over the club's ability to afford Hayne at the expected going rate of $1.2 million a season."
  • What eventually transpired with that clause in his contract to walk out if there was unrest at the club, with full pay? Sure, walk if you want, but I take it that "with pay" clause is dead?
    • Clause was removed
  • The club has issued the following statement on their web site. http://www.parraeels.com.au/news/2016/07/08/statement_regarding_.html

he Parramatta Eels have not received a request from Kieran Foran's management regarding a release from his contract.

Kieran’s welfare is the club’s primary concern and the Eels will continue to offer him all the resources available to aid in his recovery.

The club will be making no further comment on the matter.

I would suggest that if & when he requests a release that the club would be seeking assurances that they do not have any obligations in paying monies for any portion of the contract that he has broken.
