How did we win

I am still on a bit of a daze and can't believe we won last night.

We had no calls go our way and Klein doesn't bin Solomona when clearly it was an intentional foul. If Makatoa stays down he definitely goes for 10 on a bunker review maybe even a send off.

He then misses a blatant knock on. Melbourne got piggy backed out of their own 20 on numerous occasions and we still held strong.

I think the charge down front Lane was actually the play of the game as that was going over for sure.

Special mention to Dylan for his best game in his career. This game could be the making of him. Also I was filthy on Stone last week for that stupid penalty but credit where it is due. He played to the whistle and made sure he was onside for the winner when everyone else was watching the kick.

A final note

I loved Bellamy's face when he was asked why the eels seem to have the wood on the storm. It will never be payback for 2009 but it is priceless.

Well done to BA and the boys

I can't stop smiling

  • Great blog, Jason. Well said. Long way to go but a great response from the players to last week.
    Onto the Dragons...

    • I just hope there isn't that emotional let down after such a great win

We need to have the same intensity for the Dragons like a top 4 side should.

We can intrench ourselves in the top 4 in the next 3 weeks against very beatable opposition

      • Absolutely agree, next weeks game important.

      • We were always to going to be up for this.

You are 100% spot on - key is what we do next game up. Let's hope they can carry that intensity and level to next week's game.

  • Statistically we should not have won that game, that's what makes the result so sweet - hard fought win is what the fans wanted to see and they delivered.Definitely areas to work on, the middle has to tighten up and Moses, Penisini & Bailey have communicate better and get start that edge working defensively.

    • Couldn't agree more

The cover defence was brilliant though especially by Dylan and I thought Moses was great in defence in cover as well.

    • Well said, Mick.

      • I also think Moses is becoming a very reliable half-back and is less prone to losing his shit and doing something stupid. I think his kicking game is in the top 3 in the NRL and his decision making has improved enormously.

For the first time I really feel as a half he is capable of winning us a Grand Final

  • I've seen players sent for 10 once they review it. Has this changed? If not it makes no sense why He wasn't sent off. Deliberate contact to the head.

Jahrome Hughes should have been sent off too for holding down two tackles in a row. I think it was around the point we scored via Blake so everyone forgets. But all we got was a six again on the first one he did. The second one directly after and the ref just ignored it. Terrible stuff from the ref.

    • That's what makes the win even more satisfying. We were so brave as a unit.

Klein is a blatant home team ref.

We definitely are not a premiership winning side after beating the storm but the signs are there.

When we beat the storm in the last couple of rounds last year it seemed to flick the switch and if it wasn't for some horrendous calls against the panthers we should have been in a preliminary final if not GF.

Could be the turning point as we still have a lot of improvement in us
